My wife is from BsAs. We dealt with the embassy there and our interview went without any problems. Our only negative experiences in the process was the poor attitude of the Customs agent in Miami (which nearly left my wife deciding to go back to Argentina) and that American Airlines lost her luggage and most of her belongings.

Thank god for the the Customs agent who did her interview and processing. He was a Mexican American, spoke Spanish, and made her feel completely welcomed to the U.S.

As for American Airlines, they never did recover her lost bag. I had traveled with AA monthly to BsAs for 5 years without any problems. As luck would have it, the first problem would be on the day my wife moved from Argentina. Nice...

Great steaks!

Suerte!

Sorry about the bag...but I'm happy to hear that everything worked out in the end!

What did they ask her? I'm waiting on pack 3 from the embassy so (hopefully!) it won't be long before I have my interview and have to make it through the POE myself

CHE BOLUDO !

A GRINGO'S GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING THE ARGENTINES

When your Argentine friend shows up late to meet you and tells you "Che chabón, no sabés! se cagó la chata en la loma del orto y nos quedamos en bolas!" Do you wish you had paid more attention in Spanish class? No worries, it wouldn´t have helped you anyway. This book will. Argentines speak a different type of Caste-shh-ano that can leave even the most fluent of gringos struggling to keep up. "Che Boludo!" will not only provide a few laughs but really help you understand just what all of these chamuyeros are talking about.

note: I was going to get it for Justin but it's filled with bad words

good luck with the interview. we did the cr1 interview and it was easy. rule of thumb is that they look for signs that you are not a real couple. if you go prepared and since your sincerity will shine through, you will have no problem. Now if you are a fraud and start to sweat.. problema! No te preocupes. Les va ir bien. Che. :P

Hey Banfield!

mmm, something interesting...well, first, I think we are very lucky because the BA embassy is very helpful; they answer emails very quickly, usually within 24 hours. Their email address is BuenosAires-IV@state.gov

They also have hours of service for people processing immigration visas on

Mondays at 2:30pm. (Source: BA hours of service).

For packet 3 you’ll need the standard papers:

(See my personal comments in blue)

(Source Docs for K1 application)

• A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond the applicant's intended period of stay in the United States.

Remember there's a 2 months waiting period for the passport! if you need a new one, do this as soon as possible

• Birth certificate

• Divorce or death certificate of any previous spouse for both the applicant and the petitioner

• Police certificate from all places lived since age 16

This is obtained at registro nacional de reincidencia

Registro de reincidencia

(processing times vary from 8 hours to 5 days, with different fees)

• Medical examination

When you go get the lab tests, if you go before 8 am, the results are ready that same day at 7pm. Otherwise, you get the results the next day.

Make sure you have all your vaccination certificates.

• Evidence of financial support (Form I-134, Affidavit of Support may be requested.)

• Two Nonimmigrant Visa Applications, Form DS-156 (A Form DS-156, prepared in duplicate.)

The BA embassy requests that you send copies of all the papers before scheduling an interview date. Make sure you send 2 copies of this form and not just one! We assumed the 2 copies would have to be presented at the interview, but we got an email the next day asking us to forward another copy.

• One Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application, Form DS-156K

• Two nonimmigrant visa photos (each two inches 50 X 50 mm square, showing full face, against a light background)

Make sure to include these pictures when you send the copies to the embassy too

• Evidence of a fiancé relationship

We submitted color copies of the photos of evidence of relationship, but they asked us to submit them again, and we sent photos printed in standard photo paper.

• Payment of fees (U$S 100)

I dropped the envelope with all the requested papers at the embassy personally. You can do this or mail the envelope through DHL

I dropped off the papers on Wednesday, and I’m waiting to hear back from the embassy (hopefully not too long now!) I’ll keep you posted

Good luck everyone!!

Saludos,

Caro
