The thing is I live in the middle East,if my parents knew I had premarital sex it would be so bad and I can't go alone. We are having an exam for Green card,I am just worried I might have chlamydia although I don't have any symptoms and I had sex only once and that was two years ago. There is no way I have Gonorrhea cuz it disappears from your body.

Ummmmmmmm no gonorrhea doesn't "disappear from your body"

I don't think a lot of people know how things work in the middle east. It can be very difficult for women in situations like this. Ive read and even heard stories of women being drowned in their family pool by their own father, for having premarital sex. So yes sometimes it is worth risking your health, instead of your life. OP, I know in the middle east pharmacies are a bit different. Is there any way you can go to a pharmacy (one where you or your family isn't known) and explain that you may need to be treated for this? They would probably give you the medication on the spot, without you even having to consult with a doctor.

If you have had sex once and have no symptoms, I don't know why you have become so frightened.  I think you might be paranoid.  And it is also treated by antibiotics used for other things, so if you had to be treated for something else with antibiotics it likely took care of chlamydia.

Exactly, it can just be existing without major outward symptoms (one in every 8) and wreaking havoc on your reproductive abilities if left untreated long enough.

I would look up a local planned parenthood nearby and walk in for a test. In America these tests are part of your typical female annual exam under most health insurance policies but planned parenthood should be able to provide the services for free :) for male or female.

Also if you are over 18 years old in the US there are laws called HIPAA which forbids any healthcare provider to share any information about you with anyone else without your consent. If you are under 18 years old you can ask planned parenthood what their policy is because you are considered a minor.

In an effort to actually help the OP and not make any judgements....

The situation - OP is going for a 'green card' medical and will not be allowed to attend medical alone presumably is female in Middle east and requires a male Guardian accompany.  Concerned that some STD test performed will expose previous undisclosed (to family) per-marital sex.   I think the following....

  a) As I understand it Medicals must be performed by US certified Doctors a very short list and that female Doctors should be available.  I would assume that such Doctors would be required to adhere to US style Patient confidentiality laws and therefore the OP could request to see a Female Dr. by herself (assuming OP is female) even if Male Guardian was required to accompany her to the office....  If that is the case then she can discuss the disclosure concern with the female Dr. in confidence.

  b) Depending on the type of Visa (assuming the medical is actually for a visa not a greencard given it is apparently overseas) then the results of that medical are likely to be sealed and only available have results reviewed at the embassy at interview time... If this is the case then go back to a) above and ask Dr. to make a note for embassy of inherit risk to applicant in case of positive result.

   c) Depending on if OP is being petitioned by a USC then USC may be able to call the doctor office in advance and explain the situation and help assure confidentiality of the result.

  -

Perhaps other VJ members can comment on the validity of the above and offer additional suggestions....  I know when my wife went for her medical the Doctor was specifically prohibited from discussing ANY results with even the patient.  And I think the tests themselves are likely not instant results type of things

This is really good info, while staying on topic! Thank you! I knew some of the VJ folks would come through somehow.

Question, I wonder if the OP would be able to ask about the doctor patient confidentiality when she (or he) is alone with the doctor? I am concerned that once the exam is done, the accompanying family member will drill the dr with questions.

I am very familiar with Middle Eastern traditions, so this is a very very sensitive issue.

:ot: I wish I could be there to help somehow, it burns me to know how many (young) women go through stuff like this.

:ot2: OP, @Imscared2017 -- if you feel comfortable sharing your country maybe a VJer who has gone through medical in your country can shed some light OR, any folks from the Middle East, please chime in and share your medical experience with OP. How is the privacy thing handled etc.?

Though I suspect each country, city, facility is slightly different, but still -- the OP could really use some guidance.

My thoughts are with you @Imscared2017

To attempt to answer the OP's question, whether they test for chlamydia at the medical exam...

This shows you some diseases that may make one inadmissable:

https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume8-PartB-Chapter6.html

No mention of chlamydia there. Gonorrhea is mentioned however. If someone from your region could comment on how the medical exam is performed there, that would be more accurate. For the medical exam in Mexico, there was no examination of genitals (or really anything). They do take urine and blood samples, which is pretty standard. Both STDs may show up in either test, and seeing as how they do test for gonorrhea, it's possible they would test for chlamydia.

For your own health, it might be a good idea to get tested separately if you're concerned, so you may be treated. Best of luck and hope everything is clear for you.

This is Good information.

To clarify how the US medical system works (I used to work in a walk in / urgent care clinic where people came in for these tests and didn't want anyone to know pretty frequently). If you are on a spouses/family insurance plan the test will likely should up on a statement that you received the test because of the insurance coverage statements (the clinic will have you sign paperwork to allow them to share information with your insurance company). You can ask to pay out of pocket for the test and that will take care of the insurance statement issue.

If you go to a place like planned parenthood that doesn't require you go through insurance no one will know you received the test unless you declare you are okay with the medical team discussing it with that person. HIPAA is a very important and strictly followed law in the states, I work in a hospital and we can not share anything with family members or friends unless the person gives us very explicit approval to do so (This only applies if you are 18 years or older).

Great info! Thanks for sharing, as some people may not know how this works on insurance in the US. The OP seems to be in the Middle East at the moment, not sure how the medical system works there.
