Does being a government official complicate things?

My fiancée-to-be and I will be filing for a K1 visa in December. We heard that the beneficiary being a government official might complicate things. As it happens, I am one. I am a historian and archivist at the archives of the city I live in. The archives are a department of the 'gemeente', the local government administration (comparable to a municipality, town hall or city council). Before that I worked for 6 years at the same cities building code department.

 

Can anyone tell me if this would complicate things and how I can best deal with the situation?

I worked for my local government before my cr1 approval, and there was no issue.  USCIS will look at your fiancé income and ability to support you, not yours.  Some training and careers cause concern ie sciences, but working for a government should not.

I don't know. That's why I asked. They said it had something to do with having ties to other governments and possible spying or something. But I'm just a desk cleric. Lol.

It makes a big difference in some countries, especially those on the state sponsors of terrorism list.  It isn't an automatic denial, but there may be increased scrutiny and security checks, depending on the government position held.  But, usually no worries for most countries, including the Netherlands.

As you are from Europe, that won't be a problem at all.  
If you were, say, from China (and thus being a government official means being part of the Communist Party too) it may be a different story.
