I got married earlier this year and I started to work without having a work permit because my spouse could not afford it at the point in time.  Now i am filling out my I-485 (New Form) and the are asking if I ever worked in the USA illegal. What should I put?

You should always tell the truth - even if illegal. Other VJ members may be able to verify this - but I believe that if you are married to a USC then it is forgiven when you file AOS paperwork - I could be wrong about this though. Regardless, always ALWAYS tell the truth.

Tell the truth.  NEVER lie or omit any information.

Thanks...This got me nervous now

It's OK to be nervous. It's not OK to lie. You were here on a student visa then married a USC? Can s/he get a job now and you can STOP working illegally? You would still need to report it of course, but a momentarily lapse of judgement would be, in my opinion, better than an ongoing blatant disregard of the rules.

Hi,

it does not make you ineligible to AOS. This is because you are married to a US citizen and their petition for you will wipe your slate clean. This also goes for overstaying a visa as well.

As they say with immigration. Lying is definitely a no-no. This also means that you don't volunteer any more info then you need to.

If it where my application I would mark yes (for what it's worth)
