When we attempted to get a SS card we realised that my fiancee had had a brain fart (she prefers the term "Blonde moment") and had completed the bottom (departure record) of the I-94 with her new married name, reasoning that she would have a new name when she next departed the USA.

So Homeland security has her listed in her maiden name in their computers, but her I-94 complete with EAD stamp has her new married name, before she was married. This discrepancy caused us to be sent back to the local immigration office to fix the problem before we could be given a SS card.

We managed to get into the local office before we were sent away to get an Infopass appointment. Today armed with an appointment we went to the local Immigration office. We were not even allowed to sit down before we were told that they could NOT change anything on an I-94. We were then directed to the local Airport, and told to contact immigration services there, but they could not see us until 25th April.

So here we sit happily married in a sort of Limbo, unable to proceed with any of the tasks that require a SS number.

Anyone recall a similar foopah? How was it resolved? A search for POE and port did not provide much information

We had a problem with the POE as well. At JFK, they put my husband in as a sudent visa and not a K-1. So when we went to the SSN office to get his card, they would not issue us one because their was an error in the computer. I called the misinformation line and they told me to make an INFOPASS appt. At the INFOPASS, they told us to go to the airport. Well, we are in Baltimore and his POE was JFK airport. It didn't matter, so we went to BWI airport.

Once we got to the airport, we found the Customs and Homeland Security Office. They had to change it in their computers first.

The mistake cost us an extra month. Because we had to wait for 2 weeks for it to register in the computer before going back to the SSN office to apply for a card. And then had to wait for the SSN card.
