name change

Hi,

I'm going to have naturalization interview soon. I filled N400 without name change, but now I'm starting to consider maybe I should change my name after all. I've been using an English version of my given name for over a decade now in the US, and I might want to finally make it official.

Did anyone have experience in trying to amend N400 during the interview?

I gave them the name I'm using on the form already, as "other names used".

I don't really care if it delays the process or not, I just don't want to make it more complicated.

You'd have to check "yes" on your N-400 part 2.4 and type the new name there. At your interview they have you sign the court document which you'll get back at your oath ceremony signed by a judge. I don't think you can amend it now. You'll have to do a regular court name change.

am not a 100 % sure , but at my Interview the officer asked me if there where any changes ,

 and then corrected with a red pen a question I forgot to fill out  

you might get lucky at the Interview if you tell him about the name change , he might correct it with a red pen and make you initialize it

I read it wrong. Since you're going to have your interview still you can tell your officer that you want a name change.

 

In my case it didn't show on my form for whatever reason (computer issues) so she asked me and I had to spell my new name to her.

What is your Field Office ? 

There is a chance that your office only conducts Administrative Ceremonies which a Name Change can't be done with it.

If your office does conduct a Judical Ceremonies then I believe your IO will ask you about this question and she/he will cross out and fix it with her/his red pen.

I think my office does judicial ceremonies, but I'll just ask the officer during interview. Not a big deal either way, I know it sounds funny talking about name change like that but I've been using different first name than in my documents since forever, so it's ok either way if I get it officially changed or not.
