Problem of receiving SSN

I entered USA last week Monday with IR1 Visa. I went to local social security office in Toledo Ohio.....I was told by the officer there that I can't receive SSN unless I have my green card. I heard from other people from visa journey that they received SSN while waiting for their Green card. I just want to know how to go about it without waiting for green card. I was stamped in with one stayed inside my passport.

That's not right. I went to the Social Security Office and I applied for a SSN and they didn't ask for anything but my passport with the visa on it.

the stamp on your passport means you're a temporary u.s resident until you receive your 10 year green card.

i guess there was a misunderstanding. try to call the Social Security Office and ask them.

We are from Toledo Ohio and my husband got his social security card without his green card.  Isn't there an option with CR1/IR1 to just receive the card by mail?  I'm not sure as we were a K1.  All they asked for was his passport with his visa in it, birth certificate, I-94, and our marriage license.  He got the card no problem.

Awesome!  Did you go to Monroe St office?  They seem to be knowledgeable there on immigrant documents.
