Applying for global entry while N400 is pending

I was wondering whether it is ok to apply for global entry (GE) while waiting for my n400 process?

Does GE have any tie to my passport/green card?

IF I get GE nowadays, would it be invalid after my citizenship, or does it require me to re-apply?

Anyone?

Thanks!!!

In my wife's case we decided to hold off on GE until after naturalization as the name on her current foreign passport is different than the name she will eventually have on her US passport.  I think it has more to do with the name, but it may also be tied to a specific passport/GC.  I would if possible talk to the GE folks at the airport then you can make a decision.

Good Luck!

Hi there,

I have global entry and a pending n400 application.  My global entry card states my current citizenship (which is Canadian), and I use my green card at the global entry kiosk at the airport.  Given all of this, I suspect that if you obtained global entry now, you'd have to likely reapply/go through the global entry interview again when your n400 is approved and you receive your new US passport.

Not for sure about this, but I suspect this would be the case.

Thank you.  Is there an easy way to get hold of GE folks? I assume it is only possible when you travel internationally?

Thanks,

I was thinking the same way, but couldn't find any solid information on this topic. I do travel often, and GE is something I really want regardless of its cost.

I just do not want to go through all its interview, waiting process once again.

Do you guys now whether there is a government office we could consult about this?

Thanks all!

Finally!

Just found this information:

Can I add/change my citizenship through my GOES account?

No, you must go into a trusted traveler enrollment center (Global EntryNEXUSor SENTRIif you need to change your citizenship or add a citizenship in the case of dual citizens. You may go in on a walk-in basis to most centers that are located in public buildings or airports.  Some centers may require that you contact them first to make an appointment through them.  You cannot make an appointment for this through your GOES account or calling the help center.  Most centers will accommodate walk ins, without an appointment.

So this means, we will just walk in, and show our passport/Certificate of Naturalization!

There's no new interview - you just go in to their office (no appt needed) with a document proving your citizenship for them to update the system.

I got my GE with my N400 pending, I actually wished I had gotten it right as I got my Green Card, I asked the Officer when I did my GE interview and all you have to do is do a walk up and then they can can switch to GE to your US passport when you become a citizen, its not another fee or anything. On a different note I used GE for the first when I got back from Jamaica last month and it was a breeze. I had to manually key in my Green Card number though but it was GE Kiosk and through in just a few minutes

I went to Chicago O'Hare's enrollment center this weekend to change my status, global entry as an LPR to now citizen. You have to go in person but you don't need to make an appointment and it's very fast. When I went, there were about 20 applicants waiting for global entry interviews but a CBP officer took my U.S. passport and global entry card first. He told me to take a seat, he was gone for 5 minutes, then came back with my passport and GE card and told me I was all done. Super fast update. If you don't mind having to go to an airport one more time to update your citizenship, you can go ahead apply now. There is no fee for making this update.

Thanks for the information.  This is helpful to quite a few of us!

I assume a name change and citizenship update would require a different procedure?

Actually, my name is not changing, instead of X Y Z, it will be Y Z only. :) Removing my unused first name.

Your example is considered to be a name change and the procedure is the same as updating citizenship status. You will have to go in person but you won't be made to wait. So you could kill both birds with one stone after you are naturalized.

Good luck!

Many many thanks for this!

All clear now.

BTW at the end of your link it states this:

If information needs to be updated on your membership card, you may order a new card through your GOES account by clicking on "Manage Membership," then "US Programs," then card replacement (choose any reason, even if not accurate). After you pay the $25 replacement fee, one will be mailed to you at the address in your profile.

Do I have to order a replacement card in the case of a name change? The language they use is very vague...

The card has to be shown only for land crossing to Canada (and maybe 1 or 2 other countries, I can't remember). The card is not required for air travel to any country because the green card for LPRs / U.S. passport for U.S. citizens is what needs to be scanned in global entry kiosks when returning to the U.S. I have traveled by air numerous times since I got global entry and not even once was I ever asked for the GE card.

So if you plan on traveling to Canada by land, then yes, you will have to order a replacement card because if you apply now as a Moroccan citizen, the card will show your citizenship as Morocco (as it shows France for me). When replacing your card after you become a U.S. citizen, your new card should show you as U.S. citizen. Replacement card costs $25 as of today.

Actually, I applied for a replacement card today so I'll keep you updated on what happens and how long it takes. :)

Great info! Thanks once again! Please keep us posted...

Hi, I don't know if you still wanted this information or not but I applied for a replacement global entry card on Sept 18 and received it on Sept 29. I chose "lost" as the reason even though my first GE card was never lost. But as you pointed out above in red, you can choose any reason to get a replacement card so long as you pay the $25. I replaced my GE card just so my citizenship now shows as USA. Hope this helped in some way.

Sure, it is still applicable to me :)

Meanwhile I already got my GE card, so just waiting for N400 process which is deadly slow. :(

The officer told me that we do not even need a card with us when flying in/out, just have to update your citizenship in person with your new passport.

Thank you!
