Need advice related to working in a factory

Hello everyone :)

I'm in need of advice regarding how I'm gonna proceed to get my first job in The United States.

I have an accountant degree from France , I have an evident lack of experience that could stop me from working in that field unless I'm very very very lucky.

in the area I live in , jobs don't grow on trees , it is a really rural area and there are a very few jobs available. I'm young , done with high school and a 2 years degree in accounting but not a lot of experience (6 months ).

We have here a bunch of factory around here and I wouldn't mind work there as long as it can bring food on the table for my wife and I. I have worked a year and a half in the kitchen of a fast food. This could help my case to work in a factory ? Working fast , doing repetitive work in hot kitchen is not the dream job but this experience could help ,is it ? :)

how do I proceed to work in a factory ? Should I go to each factory and give them my resume ( along with a cover letter maybe ? ) and telling them if they hire , I'm always available ? It seems to be the best way to go , we usually do this in France. Showing in person give a good impression and brake the ice too .

thanks for the help and advice in advance. :)

PS: interview for AOS is positive , i haven't received it yet .

Try finding work via a temp agency. A lot (like Manpower) are specialized in factory work.

Not sure what state you're in but I'm in a small town in NC, and some of the only non specialized jobs with benefits plus good pay are in factories. Things like energizer, malt o meal, and technimark (basically non furniture and non sewing factories)  are all amazing if you can get hired full time permanently.

Lots of factories use staffing agencies to put the bulk of workers in, and open hire those temps after 6mo-1yr. It's called temp to hire.

Sewing factories need experience and usually a lot of it. Furniture factories, same thing. My grandfather managed a furniture factory for 35yr, dad is running a bread factory for 15. Both worked their way up from the very bottom.

call the factory you want and ask if they hire or they temp to hire, and if so what temp agency they use.

Accounting and HR are those line of professions that are very hard for foreigners without US work experience and/or degree to get because they involve knowing rules, regulations and laws specific to the US, your state and sometimes even your city limits.

i know you’re in a small city but I would look for a workplace that may allow you to grow into an accounting role; store, hotel etc. Where you can start in a customer service role or similar and gradually move over to the accounting department and start gaining US accounting knowledge and experience.

If that’s not an option and you’re going for the factories, I say go out there and speak to them. Ask if they’re hiring and fill out an application.

Good luck with your job hunt.

Tax season is close. Try applying for HR Block as a tax preparer. I'm already seeing ads for position. It is seasonal but at least you will get the experience you need.
