Hi - I was told I don't need a certified copy of my birth certificate to bring to the interview... but just the other day I was told directly by USCIS that I only need a photocopy of it. Is this correct? On the list directly on the form it says "Your Birth Certificate" and a few items below that it says the "original" and "copy" of everything submitted. The problem being that I am pretty sure I accidentally submitted the certified copy I had with the application already... will they have it at the interview? Do I still need another certified copy to bring to the interview?

Sorry for the questions, but as we all know this process can be SO tedious... just double-checking! It's making me SO nervous. THANKS! :-)

You send photocopies with the initial AOS package, and then you bring the original or certified copies to the interview. They will want to see the original/certified copy of your birth certificate at the interview. If you're lucky they might be fine with the one you already sent, hopefully they have it on hand at the interview.

Never ever send any originals or certified copies of anything unless specifically asked to.

For the K-1 visa we sent a certified copy of the USC's divorce decree but were still asked for another certificed copy at the interview despite that the embassy already had the first certified copy on hand from the initial package.
