Traveling to VN with i751 extension but lost VN passport

Hey guys,

 

My wife needs to go back to VN due to a family emergency. We have our i751 extension letter and her green card. The card doesn't expire til Oct 6, 2017. She lost her passport. What does she need in order to enter vn and enter back in the states at the airport? any input would be great guys.

All she needs are the extension letter, current green card ,and get Viet Nam visa ..

To be safe don't stay over 3 months..

1. A new passport.
2. Expired green card.
3. Extension letter.

 

This is assuming that the extension letter doesn't expire soon.

Yes she's a citizen of VN. Problem is we lost her passport for VN.

So she doesn't need a visa then, right? She need a new Vietnamese passport to travel internationally and to get back to the US (along with the other documents mentioned).

Not if you are Viet citizen - Viet passport only. 

 

Just went home with my wife in June no such animal as an entry visa for a Viet Citizen.

By definition, visas are only issued to people who aren't citizens of that country. 

 

So if she had a Vietnamese passport and is still entitled to one, she wouldn't be able to get a Vietnamese visa because she wouldn't need it.

She had one but we lost it somewhere. That's why we are asking is there a way to travel to VN without a VN passport. She was thinking of just getting a entry exit visa for VN

Yes, she can travel to Vietnam with a US passport. She can get a US passport after she gets US citizenship.

Until then, she will need a Vietnamese passport. So, why don't you contact the Vietnamese embassy to issue a new passport instead of the one she lost?

Is there some reason she does not want to get a new VN passport?  A reasonable person would look to getting a new one as the FIRST course of action.

There's no other way for her. She will need a VN passport. It's as simple as that. As others have been trying to drill it into your head, a citizen is never granted a visiting/tourist/temporary visa to enter his/her own country. 

 

Just because you guys don't feel like applying for or spending on a new VN passport for her, that doesn't mean she'll get to enter her birth country the way she prefers i.e. with a visa. 

 

Even before entry, she would have had to enter her passport number when purchasing her flight tickets. And then at flight check-in, she'll need to present her VN passport to counter staff. So do you still think she doesn't need a VN passport?
