British Prime Minister Theresa May has rebuked US President Donald Trump for suggesting suspects in Friday's London train blast were known to police.

"I never think it's helpful for anybody to speculate on what is an ongoing investigation," she said.

In a tweet, Mr Trump described the attackers as "loser terrorists" and "sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard".

The bomb rocked a London Underground train, injuring 29 people.

In a phone call with Mrs May on Friday, Mr Trump "pledged to continue close collaboration with the United Kingdom to stop attacks worldwide targeting innocent civilians and to combat extremism", the White House said.

A Downing Street spokesman said he also offered "his condolences over this morning's cowardly attack in London", which he described to reporters earlier as "a terrible thing".

I didn't really understand his "in the sights of Scotland Yard" bit. Did he really know that? Do we even know if that is the case now that they caught a suspect?

 

I'm just not sure what anyone benefited from adding that bit in. I'd agree with the "loser terrorists" remark, but details about whether the people were previously known seems like wild speculation. It may turn out to be true, but I doubt he had some knowledge. If he did, I'm pretty sure the UK doesn't appreciate him taking information about their own investigation public. I don't think we would appreciate the UK talking about people that are known to the FBI.

During The White House briefing yesterday it was asked what Trump meant by saying "in the sights  of Scotland Yard".

 

The answer given was that all terrorists are basically in the sights of Scotland Yard and the FBI. Seems a plausible explanation but only Trump knows what he really meant.
