Enter USA with IR1 Visa

I entered USA on Monday through IR1 but I want to know when should I apply for social security number. Because I need to work and assist my wife.

Once they stamped your passport, you will have to wait 3 weeks for or social security card. If it doesn't come in those 3 weeks, you will have to go to your local social security office and find out why they haven't send it. I was though by a lawyer.

OP, did you check the box in the DS-260 that you would like a SSN to be done automatically got you? If so, wait a few weeks and it should come in the mail. If you dud t, you will need to go to a social security office and apply for one. 

 

You don't need the SSN to start work. I arrived on December 19, started work on January 3 and got my SSN one week later. You can't be added to payroll without an SSN in most companies, but you can start working. Just show them the endorsed visa in your passport - that's your legal permission to work. I had to wait for my SSN to be paid but at least I was working already.
