SLEC experience September 11, 2017

My husband had his medical exam last Monday. He got everything done in a day on the busiest day of the week! Here's what he told me...

He was at SLEC at 3 AM and there was already a queue outside the building. He told me that there were chairs for rent, but being the extremely frugal person he is, he didn't take the bait. Hehe! He made small talk with the other people waiting in line, and since he was extra friendly, they shared their umbrella with him when it started to drizzle. :P

The guards started giving out numbers at 4:30. He was 15th among those who registered online. They asked for his pictures (4 2x2 pics with his name printed at the back), his appointment letter (he printed 2 copies), online registration form, his passport, and a photocopy of the bio page. They were let in at around 5. I won't go into detail about the steps he had to go through because I've read a lot of posts here about that... but he was done with the xray, blood test, and immunization interview by 7:30 AM. He waited until 8 for his PE. He says it was pretty quick. The waiting took longer than the examination itself.

After he was done, he was asked at check out if he wanted to wait for his results. This was exactly what we were praying for so he wouldn't have to go back the next day and also so he could get a decent night's sleep without worrying about whether they'd ask him to take a sputum test or not. So of course, he said yes. They asked him to come back at 2 PM... it was only 9 in the morning. 😳 But wait he did. He didn't even bother to go out because it was already raining hard by then. He spent the rest of the morning people watching and dozing off on the chair.

At 1 PM, his name was called. He was asked to proceed to the immunization room. Yay! That meant only one thing, a normal chest xray! He was very nervous about that because he says that back in school (PE done every year), they would always ask for an apicolordotic view because they'd see something in the standard PA view. I think I added more to his anxiety by telling him about the stories I read of people not being allowed another xray or to talk themselves out of a sputum test despite them not having PTB. Hehe! So anyway, he got 4 shots. He kept complaining about how much his arms hurt later... big baby. Hahaha!

There was a little more waiting after the shots, but I don't think it bothered him anymore because he was just happy to have gotten throught the medical exam without any problems. He was out the door with his results at around 1:30 PM.

Many people would advise you not to go to SLEC on a Monday, but since that was the only day he could get off from work, we had no choice. If you decide to do the same, I would suggest to go early. I heard that the chances of getting your results on the same day increases when you're among the early birds. It turned out well for my husband because it rained really hard that night, and the streets of Manila were flooded the next day. I'm not sure if SLEC was open the next day, but if it wasn't and my husband had not been asked to wait for his results that Monday, then he would have had to go back on Wednesday. That would have been tough because he lives in the province and would have to miss work for 3 days.

That's it! Hope this helps those who are having their medical exams soon.

One of the few that get everything completed in a day.  I know some that did the one day without arriving at 3AM  (married to one of them)

Better to stay home and plan to arrive about an hour after SLEC opens... NO lines outside.   Still get done quickly.    Have the online registration form completed for SLEC to save time checking in.

Hello! Thanks for reading my review. Your wife is lucky she got everything done in a day without having to go to SLEC early. For many reasons, it was ideal for my husband to go early. It worked out for him, and we're thankful. I guess it all boils down to how many applicants they have on any given day. Mondays are busy, (the busiest day, I heard) so if he had gone after SLEC opened, he might not have gotten it done in a day. Just thought I'd share his experience. :)

Yes Monday-Tuesday-Friday use to be the busiest because those were the days children can be examined (for TB as they didn't get xrayed, so they had a skin test that required 3 days), making Wednesday-Thursday the least busy.  Now with the new TB testing being done with a blood test I am not sure if the skin testing will be done anymore (being interesting to hear on this).
