Timeline

You may have registered without realizing it. If you sign a I-485 to become a permanent resident it says that USCIS will register you. Call the selective service and ask for a letter.

ok, i did not know that. So when become permanent resident they register us in selective service automatically.

I was a visa holder when I arrived in the US so I didn't need to register. Not sure what the letter is that people are talking about but I definitely don't need that.
