Selective Service Question

I DID NOT REGISTER FOR SELECTIVE SERVICE B/W 18 TO 25 OF AGE. I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THAT. NOW I AM 30 YEARS AND 8MONTHS, WILL TURN 31 IN JAN. SHOULD I APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP NOW BECAUSE AT THE TIME OF INTERVIEW, I WILL BE OVER 31. WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS SUGGEST AND WHAT SHOULD GIVE ANSWER OF THAT QUESTION IN  N-400 OR LEAVE IT BLANK?

Hey,

I did not register for selective service because I came into the country at 28, but one of the requirements to get citizenship is you have to provide a letter from selective service wether you registered or not. USCIS will ask for it. You can contact selective service to see you're options, I have a buddie who got citizenship and had not registred. I think there is a way around it, but the letter will be required.

It won't be an issue if as of the date of your interview you're over 31 which sounds like you will be. As for the N 400 question regarding it you must select "yes" since you didn't register. Like I said before it won't affect you, just take your status information letter from the selective service with you to the interview and explain if asked.

the first time I came to US in may 2010 and live two months(at that time i was 23 years old), then i got reentery permit, went back to country for less than 2 years, then again came to US in end july 2012(at that time i was over 25 years old). After july 2012, i am living in US

I won't go with this advise because lying to an IO will lead you to an immediately denial. 

You never knew what information that IO has inside his hand. 

However, I don't know if you plan to do it but personally, I never. 

For now, from SSS website, you may use this for reference because it will give you exact information you are looking for:

1) What Can You Do if You Did Not Register and are Now 26 or Older ?

2) Penalties for Failing to Register

To get a status information letter visit the selective service website to request one or you can also call as well.

Next time research before you disregard someone's post. No one here is asking OP to lie. Material misrepresentation is when you intentionally omit important information which could affect an immigration benefit approval/denial odds. It's not when you rightfully answer a question as asked and even being required documentation on the interview. Part 12 question 44 specifically asks if you're a male who lived anytime in the states other than a lawful non immigrant between the ages of 18 and 26 and that answer is "yes" as I told him before.

so it won't affect my case if I file in oct three months ago, i am gonna be 31 years old in jan. i want to file early because i already filed i-130 for my wife. i want to expedite her case.

Sorry to you and sorry to him too. I misread his post.

I don't know if you really need the letter but when you request for the letter, it simple states you did not register for any reason. Maybe you need to explain to an IO about that, or maybe since you will be 31 then he might not ask you about this.
