Ah yes, the all powerful "free speech" reasoning.

Free speech doesn't mean your employer has to let you say whatever the heck you want. They both had free speech. Neither was arrested for making their comments. They were imprisoned by the government, or flogged etc... Free speech isn't the issue here.

ESPN is a private organisations and they can choose to let go of certain people if they feel like their public opinions don't align well enough with their corporate image.

They aren't do anything to free speech.

Then Hill should have been suspended.  She doesn't have a right to free speech.  She made public comments that half the population find despicable and inflammatory.  However, she wasn't suspended, despite having been previously suspended.  I really doubt ESPN's corporate image aligns with someone saying, "Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists."  If their corporate image does align with that statement, then that literally proves an extreme bias and a double standard.  If their corporate image doesn't align with that statement, then it proves they are biased in how they discipline their employees.

By the way, this no free speech in or out of the workplace argument, depending on corporate image considerations, is really hypocritical.  Most of the people making the argument that ESPN has the right to do whatever it wants in this case will also make the argument that NFL owners don't have that same right when it comes to Colin Kaepernick.  I'm not saying you are being hypocritical, because I don't know where you stand on the Kaepernick issue, but anyone who has those two differing opinions is certainly a hypocrite.
