i don't think you need one for the reason you have been here your whole life but just to make sure ask your lawyer if you have one or the people that's helping you with your processes.

The NVC does and at the consulate they will need it. Its on their checklist.

That's not good news.  The fact that the case has been transferred means it's probably going to Nebraska.  I can't say for sure, but I'm betting that is where your case will end up.

The Missouri NBC office had a wait time of 3 months for I-601a approval, it will take many more months, possibly up to a year for your I-601a to be approved at another USCIS office.

Edit: I just read a VJ user on the I-601a 2018 thread had an I-601a approved in three months, at the USCIS Nebraska office.  Perhaps your case will go quicker than I originally thought. :)

A lawyer on Facebook said all 601A waivers will be/are being transferred and centralized in the Nebraska office. Is this true? I didn't see anything on USCIS website. A LOT of people in that FB group have already been notified theirs were transferred.

We have not gotten any updates though. We are still waiting since received June 19, 2017. I did an inquiry about a month ago. My husband plans on calling the lawyer tomorrow to try and have them get some answers.

I'm getting so irritated. My husband has a somewhat common name/s so I can understand a longer background check. But then I saw someone with an even more common name approved in 2 months (Feb to April) so I call BS on that reason.

It says the estimated time range for 1601a in Nebraska is 3 to 6 months so I hope won't take long

I've never heard of the interviewing officer asking for the i601a application and hardship letter.  That is a huge document and the officer does not have the time to review something that has already been approved by the USCIS.

Bring an updated Aff of Support with your 2017 tax year information, along with W2s, paystubs, and your federal tax return as evidence.  Bring all the originals you listed, and make copies of them...except the family photos.  Better to be prepared than stuck in Juarez.

I don't speak from first hand experience...yet.  We leave for Juarez in one week to for medical and fingerprints done...then the interview at the consulate.  Dun dun dun.  To say we're anxious would be an understatement, but we've prepared to the best of our ability and lord willing, we'll get what we've worked so hard for...as will you.  Good luck.

how did it go?

I’m currently trying to see about getting that for my husband. Everyone says something different about that letter. The consulate in Los Angeles also has a lot of requirements to get it. How did it go for you?

Gabriela and all I-601a filers,

My wife's immigration visa was approved on Monday (April 30th).  We received the email from ASC on Thursday (May 3rd) late in the afternoon.  My wife picked up her passport and package from ASC the following Friday morning.  I pulled an all nighter, waking up at 6am to go to work and finishing at 8:30pm.  After a quick meal, I then ventured out of Denver at 11pm in my car to Juarez and arrived at 9am at her hotel.  We checked out and went straight to the crossing bridge.  The wait for inspection took nearly an hour, but that is typical of people trying to cross from Juarez into El Paso.  At the border, my wife's package was inspected by an immigration officer and her passport was stamped.  This process took around 20 minutes, there is a waiting area outside for family members.  About 20 miles outside of El Paso, there is another border checkpoint.  He simply asked if we were Americans, I told him my wife is from Mexico and I handed him her passport.  He took a quick look at her visa stamp said "Congratulations" and we went on our way.  After a quick lunch, we drove back to Denver and arrived back home at around 10pm.  That's roughly 38 hours without sleep, nothing  6 Red Bulls and an Ipod full of music can't fix.  Yesterday, I paid the final $220 for her perm resident card and it should arrive in a month or so, along with her SS card.

I would like to thank the VJ community for helping make this possible.  We asked many different questions on the wheres, whats and whys of all things related to our case.  And we received a lot of great informative answers.  As the members of VJ have given us so much, I'll be staying active on VJ to answer anyone's questions through the forum thread, or through personal message.  I can only comment on I-601a cases involving a spouse from Mexico.  I am not an immigration attorney, but will answer anyone's questions to the best of my ability.

Good luck to you all.
