My lawyer is doing the ds-260 first, and told me to wait until the interview was done to do the waiver (I-601a), is that normal?

No, not normal at all, you will need the approved I601a document at the interview.

Waiting till after the interview will leave you no option other than the I601. which has a longer wait time.

@Esolor95

I601(A) is done while still in the U.S and i601 is done in your home country.  If your in the US and haven’t got your i601(A) I would suggest not coming to your interview and stay intill you get it approved. You will waist your time and money and end up staying in your home country.  Also the i601 waiver has a fee of $930. Keep in mind you, if you do come with out the i601a you will lose your flights, hotel, and medical expenses. Because they going to request that you do the  i601 waiver. DONT COME WITHOUT THE i601(A).. also do you have any past convictions or just entering illegally.

This may be a little off topic but related to DS260.

It asks for parents current address, however both my parents unfortunately are not legal. I fear putting their address, but also fear delaying my process with NVC. It does have a box to check "I don't know" but stuck on how to proceed. Does anyone know if this information gets sent to ICE? or if they check parents legal status?

I wasn't sure how to edit my last post but I forgot to ask, The DS260 asks have you ever been in the US I checked yes because I was brought at the age of 2 in 1989 and have never departed the US. How would someone in my position fill out the length of stay since it does not have a "to present" check box. It just gives you a drop down menu with years, months, weeks, or days and a place to put in a numerical value.
