Hi, everyone! Okay. So, I am from the Philippines and I have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. I am currently waiting for my GC and EAD. My questions are:

1. I am looking online if I can be licensed here, it said that my school has to be accredited. Question: How do I even know/ check if my school is accredited?

2. Before I came here, I thought that I did not need to be a registered nurse in the Philippines if I am gonna work here. I just saw 10 mins ago while browsing online that I HAVE to be an RN in PH before I can take NCLEX (Nursing Comprehensive Licensure Exam) here in the US. I am confused. Can somebody who has any experience about this enlighten me?

3. If (and only if) I just decided to be a Medical Assistant or any jobs that involves nursing/medical field, can I just use my college diploma as a proof that I have BSN?

4. If someone say that I can take NcLEX here, it's gonna be a detailed process. Am I right? Is it worth it to take all these process or just might as well get a different kind of job that doesn't include nursing?

5. Anybody here that's working in USPS? Because my husband said that if I just wanna work different field that USPS is the best bet, because of all the benefits and stuff. Any ideas?

I cannot remember all the questions I had earlier that I wanna ask. lol. Thanks everyone!

You need to contact the state board of nursing in your state.  They are the licensing authority.....Yes, I am an RN.

EDIT:  Nursing is an extremely rewarding career.  There is always a need for good nurses...Good Luck...

I've been a nurse for 15 years and it's variable by state. Allnurses.com is a great help forum for nursing questions. I have previously worked with women who got their nursing degree in the Philippines but for whatever reason were not able to use it here and working mostly as techs. Huge pay difference, at least 2-3 times.

I found this on allnurses: http://allnurses.com/nurse-registration/requirements-to-taking-836624.html

Don't get a job because you hear the pay and benefits are good. Do what you love in life and it never feels like a job. Hating your job everyday makes going to work awful.

My wife is a filipina nurse who is registered in PI and studying for the NCLEX now, so the situation is not exactly the same but it's similar. You cannot work as a nurse without a license from the state. To get that, you need to validate your credentials, apply, pass the test, potentially get a minimum score on the IELTS (requirement varies by state...i.e. NY doesn't need this but PA does). But if it's what you love to do, then do it.

As for USPS, I'm a full time contractor for them (Informed Delivery previously, and mobile apps now). It's true that USPS employees get a lot of benefits, but it's not some great job. Almost everybody is either new blood or been there for decades...you find out very quickly if you can function in that kind of environment.
