Hello All,

I am a US citizen. I filed for my wife who is in her native country, India.

The I-130 is at the  Texas Service Center.

https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processingTimesDisplay.do;jsessionid=abcrgmsFYFBke7K9EaV5v

USCIS received my case on May 22nd 2017. Today is 9/10. That means 111 days have elapsed since then.

I tried calling the USCIS and they said cases are backed up and that I should call USCIS after 8 months. well, will it really take that long? I am not sure why it's taking so long.

I am US citizen, filing for my immediate spouse so I think this approval should be around 3-4 months? Can anyone tell or give an idea of how long it will take to approve?

It all may depend, our initial approval was pretty fast,  A month or so.  But that was a year ago.   The staffing and caseload changes all the time, but I think that they are giving themselves extra time.   I don't think it should take as long as they say.

From what I understand 8 months is about right for the initial approval. Currently the process is taking around 14 months from start to finish, with 8 months for I-130 approval and 6 months for the NVC and interview stages.

According to the current processing times (https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do), on June 30th the Texas Service Center was processing applications dated November 2nd. That lines up almost exactly with the 8 month timeline that they gave you. Going by that and your submission date of May 22nd, I'd say that your application will be processed after the new year. I imagine that you'll have the visa in hand around June/July 2018 if everything goes smoothly and you don't receive any RFEs.

Hi Jorge,

Thanks for the great and detailed reply. That does give a direction.

Is there any way to get a status document saying that USCIS is processing my I-130? like pre-approval processing letter? My wife will need something like that to show her employer to prove that she is married and is in process of going away. Since 8 months a way too long.

Have you received NOA1 (Notice of Action 1)? USCIS should send you notification via mail or email if you filled out the G-1145 within a couple of weeks of them receiving your application.

That's great it worked out for you like that, but that is not normal processing time, may have to do with the fact that you got transferred.

Im glad it worked out that way as well :) . I said on the average 5 months as that is what I have read on multiple forums and reading their experiences. I'm sorry if you felt i was giving false information but it was the same information that I had been given at the time I applied and its been pretty dead on. So i think there are many different reasons things are delayed and not always to do strictly with the USCIS sometimes people do not turn in the right forms or documents. Oh yeah and my case was never transferred.

But hope you get the news you are looking for soon as this is a long draining process and sucks taking so long to be reunited full time with the one that you love.

For more info look at the timelines of other people on here and you will see how long people have been waiting and reasons for their delays

dont get discouraged keep pushing forward until finally you 2 are united!

The average right now is running 8-9 months because of the rush of applications from the end of the year, before that the normal average was around 5-6 months like you said.

You got very lucky, I see a lot of people from Ghana waiting longer than average, some at 10 months right now.

I am waiting already 9 and half months since my NOA1 and im still patiently waiting and I am a US Citizen. My wife is from Indonesia and we filed a I-130 petition at Nebraska Service Center. Nothing i can do at this point but keep waiting because it was useless to call USCIS. Might need help from a Senator and get a service request if dates is passed. Good luck

Approval times for I-130 never were 3 to 4 months more 5 to 8 months. They are backlogged because Homeland security is revamping You are well within regular processing times All you can do is wait. I know  friends waiting since December and January still nothing. This process is long.

My wife is a U.S citizen. We had no problems or criminal records. We had no red flags. She applied I-130 for me in June, 2015 and got approved in April, 2017.

a year and 10 months. Almost 2 years.

Guess what? the NVC stage was so smooth, and the embassy stage was so easy and smooth as well. and I received my visa the next business day. and at the POE was so easy and it took me to finish the whole process 15 minutes.

but at the USCIS stage we had to go through long security checks. the uscis said FBI checks. I'm currently in the U.S and till now we have no idea what that was. we waited so long but it worth it to wait. because now we're together.

My point is immigration process is not easy at all and not short. expect always to wait so long.

I wish you the best of luck.
