USCIS cancels Interview the last minute

I am deeply frustrated right now. We were supposed to have our interview on Tuesday, September 12, and a USCIS rep called me on Saturday afternoon saying that they have to cancel and make another date. I didn't have the chance to answer her call and she told me to give her a callback on Monday. Is this last minute cancellation possible and legit? I didn't get a cancellation notice from them whatsoever, only this call. I already requested a day off for this and as a new, temp employee, it will be incovenient for me to ask for another day off. The fact that I've been waiting for this all along and then at the end, they are just prolonging the agony is annoying. 😤

Btw, my local office is Los Angeles. TIA for your reply.

Yes, it's possible and possibly legit.  When you call back on Monday, you'll know for sure.

Yes, it is legit.  This is just a bump in the road.  Good luck.

Thanks. I am still thinking whether to go with our original interview date or not since we don't have a hard copy of our cancellation notice and the online status still states interview is scheduled. I've been reading past threads here and it is advisable to still come on Tuesday. I wonder why they had to cancel on really, really short notice!

Be thankful you got a call at all...some people don't :)

Your interview is on Tuesday---you were requested to call back on Monday, the day before.  So call back on Monday (tomorrow) and then you will get more information instead of just taking the trip down there on Tuesday for no reason if not necessary.  I'm certain when you call back as requested on Monday they will give you more information.

The lack of a written letter notifying you of the cancellation is irrelevant at this point since it was JUST cancelled over the weekend, and all the lady would have to do is make a note in your account after speaking with you on Monday morning (remember, she asked you to call back she didn't just leave it hanging in the air, which has happened to others).  As for the online case status, that can take days to update---if it updates at all...so don't rely on that as proof of anything.

If you decide to not call back tomorrow as requested, and instead show up on Tuesday anyway--- I wouldn't expect an on-the-spot interview then, if that's what you're hoping, if it's already been noted that your previous appointment was cancelled by the Officer.

Why are you considering going to the original appointment? It was CANCELED!  They will not let you do a walk-in interview.  It is NOT advisable to go on your original date.

But it's your time and money.....smh

I don't know what kind of job you have but if I were in your situation I would just let my boss know that I won't have to take that day off and just come into work. That way it's not as bad if you need to take another day off once your interview is rescheduled. If questions are asked I'd explain the situation and I'm sure he'd understand.

This is not on just my own assumption to go as there are similar situation like mine on past threads. Couples who received their cancellation letter never went to their original interview dates and later on received a denial letter because they abandoned their cases, like the quote below. Other couples went to their original interview dates even with new scheduled date and ended up getting an interview. It was advised that the worst thing that can happen is to be turned away on that day since it is cancelled. The best thing is to get an interview on that day. Good thing they have cancellation letters on hand weeks before as proof, whereas I only have a call saying it is canceled 2 business days before my interview.

The main theme seems to be GO to the interview because some that haven't have ended up being denied because the office didn't get the notice that the interview was cancelled or something so definitely go and cross your fingers they'll see you. Explain to them that you booked your tickets X days/weeks ago and they're non-refundable so you didn't want to waste them and you're okay with waiting or coming back later.

Good luck.

I would call first thing Monday morning to confirm if the interview was really cancelled.

If it was cancelled, are you able to call your temp office and ask if you could come in? That way, if you are given only one day off, that day could be for the interview, if you get one.

I believe by now you have determined what you want to do about your case. If you have spoken to the Rep and received a confirmation of the cancellation. Please ask her to email you a copy of the cancellation notice.

If to put your mind at rest, go to the interview... Even as a temp worker, you can still get another off day since the reschedule interview ( I have been waiting for a suppose reschedule interview since March 6, 2017, no interview notice, no text, no email, no online update, yet USCIS claimed I missed my interview and have to reschedule me) might not within a week or even a month..... I know job is hard to get and so is the frustration of waiting to adjust status......( it is a dilemma between your job and the interview)...which is more frustrating.....
