Medical exam- sputum test

So my fiance went to her medical exam in Moscow and they told her she has scars on her lungs (bronchitis from childhood), so she must do the sputum test. That means a 1.5 month additional wait until her visa can be approved.

They told her to go to the interview and tell the CO she is awaiting the test. So will they take her passport and wait for the results?

Really bummed at this additional wait :(

Anyone have info on this test or had to do this?

Hi! I was in the exact same situation. Relax now, there's absolutely nothing you can do about it but wait. I had to take that damn test and waited for 6 weeks. My visa was approved during the interview, the officer kept my passport and said that once the results of my medical exam arrive they would issue the visa. It worked just like that, visa was issued and I received my passport two work days after the last day of six week period.

The place where I went for the sputum test was really nasty and inconvenient to get to. But at the end everything was fine.

Good luck!

We are on week 5 out of 6 weeks waiting for the same sputum test.  It has been a long wait given the fact that we thought she would be here by now!

I went to the dark basement testing facility with Ella all 3 times and it was pretty horrible,  She called it Mordor.  At least it was something to laugh about!

@JSWH I am really glad to hear that your visa was approved 6 weeks + 2 days since the 3rd test.

Am I understanding correctly?

How did you find out it was approved?  Just checking https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/  ?

Did you pick up your visa or did they mail it?  If mail, how long did that take?

Thanks!!!!!  -Jeff

Hi Jeff!

Yes, I was just checking the USDS site. But on the last day of 6 weeks I called to IOM office just to make sure that they would not forget to send my medical papers to the Embassy.

In Russia I lived in Moscow, therefore when I got to choose the delivery options, I went for pick up. I knew it would be faster.

Hey guys, how did you know when the passport was available for pickup? I have it set for pony Express pickup after the med results but I'm not sure how I know it's been delivered.

It took 6 weeks + 1 day to for the results to be available by calling IOM.  In two more days, our results were sent to the embassy.

When the visa is ready, it is being sent to Ella via pony express.

It looks like you can track it here:
