I think one of the main issues in NYC is that labor based green cards now require interviews (extreme vetting), which was not the case before.  So staffing is stretched; IOs who would have done N400s are now having to do labor based green card interviews too.  Presumably in NYC there are disproportionately more labor based green cards compared to many other towns in the US.

None of which is the excuse the insane situation of processing times being so imbalanced depending on where one lives.  It really is frustrating.  Especially when LI and Yonkers applicants have way shorter times.

Yes, that makes sense. But still it gets down to resources and staffing. Clearly this new requirement to interview those getting green cards through employment wasn't accompanied by an increase in staff.

What's your reaction to the situation of the member who applied in January and who is having an interview in June? Someone else suggested that perhaps a LIFO (last in first out) policy is in place to help deal with the extreme backlog (30,000 cases in the Manhattan office).

Maybe it's time the 2 senators for NY intervened in this appalling mess to try and do something to bring about change.

Circumstances have changed a lot in the last 2 years under DT. Everything is worse, hence why people are waiting forever....

Yeah, the Jan applicant/June interview situation is kinda crazy.  I would be reluctant to believe that an LIFO policy has been formally adopted but who knows.  I don't have an explanation for it sadly...

I really hope you get the interview soon. You applied in August 2018, right? It's absurd that someone who applied in January gets an interview sooner assuming all other case factors are the same. There seems to be no logic to this madness. Who the heck is running this operation? It's a mess. There has been a complete and utter failure to distribute staffing resources across field offices to match need/demand. And no standardization/consistency in regards to processing times from one field office to the next. How that is deemed organizationally acceptable is very hard to comprehend.

Thanks for the moral support!  July 2018 filer.  At this point I have no realistic expectation that I will be done before September 2019 earliest.

I recently spoke to a lawyer and they told me they think very soon the situation in NYC office would change the same it changed in Brooklyn. They said someone needs to do something in our office already, and I really hope they are right and by some magic something would happen soon. Ugh.

I wish we can all do something, like write a letter to a representative or anything like this. I’d gladly (or angrily) do that.

Oh, I’ve just read from previous page about oath taking place 96 days after interview. #######...

It is ridiculous how long some people have to wait now just to be scheduled into an interview.

I would if there is any chance it actually helps. I am thinking they either reply with just “general condolences” or it would somehow expedite my interview, but then I would be stuck in between interview and oath. Like the person with 96 days(((

You won't know if you don't try! There is nothing to lose, that's for sure.

By the way, what changes in Brooklyn? Did they transfer cases to Queens to ease the backlog in Brooklyn?
