When you say counting days, not sure what you mean. Do you mean it already passed the estimated completion time? i applied in January and my estimated time is 11 months , still have two months to go

When you get closer to your interview, you get a countdown to your "next update" - I think it was like 30 days and less. So you're expecting to get some sort of an update when the countdown gets to zero days - but at the supposed update day, the status changed to "we're taking longer than expected" and it's been like that for two weeks now.

 

My estimated time of completion was around October/September when I filed in January 2018. Now it's showing November 2018 (has been that since about 3 months ago, but I'm starting to doubt that I'll be done by then).

anyz, you and I have seem to have done FP's on the same exact date (2/5). I did mine at the center on Varick Street. I applied on 1/23 (10 days after you), and still waiting. It's been saying "We're taking longer" for the last 2 weeks or so...Case completion is still November, but I agree that that's not going to happen.

This is very discouraging. I assume the field officers are really overwhelmed with the demand. It looks like they are really trying to complete the application within the timeframe. You might get an unexpected update soon. Fingers crossed.

My oath ceremony was last Friday in downtown NYC at 10 am.

  • It took around two hours.
  • Everyone lined up to check their certificates were correct.
  • After that the ceremony began with the judge's speech and the oath of allegiance to the flag.
  • There were 146 people from 54 countries taking the oath that day.
  • You had to turn in your cell phone at the reception. 
  • Separate seating for guests vs oath takers.
  • Shook the judge's hand as he handed over the certificate of naturalization. 

This has been a long journey for me (OPT-H1B-GC and finally US Citizen) from 2003 to 2018 .I would like to thank this forum for keeping me sane throughout this process. My biggest challenge has been the US post office which did not deliver any of my USCIS mail (biometrics, interview or oath). Found out recently that they thought I was no longer at the address (without my submitting a change of address this one is a mystery neither I nor they can get to the bottom of). Hence, it really helped me to view everyone's timelines for this process.

 

If I have to share my key learning through this experience then it would be to keep calling USCIS periodically to speak to Tier 2 officer to check on your status (with post office not delivering my mail that kept me on top of things).

Hello, I applied on May 20th 2018. Last week I got a notice for an interview at the Federal Building in Manhattan. That is five months since application. (I thought it is about 11 months wait? Or is the wait in today until the Oath Ceremony?)

Wow congrats, NYCruiser- feeling a bit envious here...a bunch of us applied in January in NYC and are still waiting for interview dates. The 11 months is supposed to be the whole thing. Consider yourself blessed!

Yes... and some of us applied in September 2017 and are still waiting for interview as well. And some people have been waiting even longer than that. This system is so broken.

I am trying to make sense of this for others. Has it anything to do with risk? Or that I filed online? We did not get any interview for the AOS or the I 751. Not sure.

I notice that the 10 year Green Card came. I thought both would be adjudicated at the same time. I think everything is different for each person

Filing online definitely goes faster, on average. Unfortunately I did not know it was a possibility when I filed. 

Besides that, I don't think there are any rules. It seems pretty random overall.

Yes, well it all seems pretty random to me - we also filed online and had no interview for AOS or ROC, and also got the 10 year green card before applying for Citizenship.

Good news for us January filers! I got an update that I was scheduled for interview (document is not showing yet so don't know exact date).
