IO asked if i have photos with white background since somehow the ones they have on file had blue. I didn't know that so i didn't bring any with me. IO said they can change it but it's been over a week since the interview and no oath scheduled. I hear people get their scheduled within a week. Hopefully this photo background issues is not going to prolong it. I've seen posts on here with similar case history especially the oath ceremony canceled but they were getting notifications fairly quick after that. Maybe i'm just being impatient.

Case history says

Oath Ceremony CancelledApril 20, 2023

Your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, was placed in line for oath ceremony scheduling.April 20, 2023

We recommended that your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, be approved. Your case was submitted for quality review.April 20, 2023

Congrats on the approval! I’m sure they will schedule your oath soon. Which borough are you in?

I’ve read in this forum to bring an extra set of passport-style photos to the interview because sometimes they can’t use the ones from biometrics - for those that have yet to have their interview!

Thanks again for sharing your timeline!

And just like that my case updated today with oath scheduled for 06/05/23.

I have successfully passed an interview today at Javits Federal Building, and then had an oath ceremony (like 15 min after the interview). It feels pretty great! Timeline: applied online in the middle of December, so it took about 4,5 months for the whole process. Good luck to everyone!

Oh wow, I had no idea that NYC is doing same day oaths! Congratulations!

Same. Would like to know the time you had your interview. My husband has his at 12:45pm. I read that they do the oaths in the morning in Manhattan. So I am guessing that his oath may be scheduled later assuming he is approved.

It went well. Naturally, I was a little nervous first. After the test, they switched to questions on my life. As long as you give truthful answers, you will be fine. Some of the questions were strictly factual (e.g., your occupation now, your occupation prior to moving to the States, which country you visited in a certain year etc..), while others were of sort of evaluative nature, when you had to either clarify something (e.g., reasons of why some event happened in your life), or explain in your own words how you understand a certain term related to immigration. They definitely have all the factual info on you on their computer screen in front of them and just comparing your answers to their info. As far as I understood, they ask clarifying questions when they need to understand the nature of your motivation behind certain events in your life. There was also a series of "yes or no" questions (same type as in the N-400 form: e.g., have you ever been a member of a communist party?). The interview goes pretty fast.

Thanks for sharing your interview experience! Did they ask you the definition of terms used on the application/terms related to immigration? I’ve heard people say they ask the definitions of some words from the yes/no questions sometimes to test their ability to understand and speak English.

No, they didn't ask me to explain any terms from the application or test. The question was related to my personal immigration journey, basically they asked to explain how I understand the type of visa that brought to me the states (K1) and seemed like it was just a mere formality. I'm sure they can evaluate your level of English from the get-go.

NYC Federal Plaza interview update

My husband went for his interview this morning and was approved. Wanted to share his experience for anyone going into Federal Plaza.

There was no one in line when we arrived at 12pm. His interview was scheduled  for12:45pm so we arrived early. After passing security we went up to the 7th floor and my husband checked in. He was called in for his interview at 1pm. The interview was short; around 20 minutes.

Upon entering, he was sworn in and asked for his documents (green card, appointment notice etc). Then they started with the civics questions. He got 6 correct in a row. They then moved on to writing and reading. He was asked:

Reading: Where does the president live?

Writing: The President lives in the White House.

He got both correct. They then moved on to the "How you ever ....." and then the affirmation questions. He was then asked to sign on the tablet.

Once he signed everything, the official started to ask for documents to validate our relationship -- medical insurance, rent, bank statements, taxes, our daughter's birth certificate etc. For the medical insurance, the official wanted documentation but my husband only had the insurance card with him. My husband had all of the other documentation and the official accepted it.  The official asked how much we paid in rent. The official looked at all 4 years of our tax returns that we had printed out. I was glad that we had prepared all of the documents just in case.

By the time we got home, the case status was updated to approved / oath scheduled. The oath ceremony confirmation is available online already -- scheduled 1 month from now.

Good luck all and thanks for sharing your experiences. It really helped us to prepare and feel confident.
