POSTPONING/ MISSING FIRST OATH CEREMONY

My oath ceremony was scheduled for February 15th, I wrote them a letter [actually had it hand delivered to location of oath ceremony @ Javitz] which stated I was out of the country for a family emergency until April 1st, and was available for a ceremony anytime after April 15th [quarantine].

I wrote a follow up letter at the end of April when I hadn't heard from them, and got an appointment letter shortly after [for May 20th].

Took the oath ceremony, they didn't ask any questions about my travels [just confirmed it wasn't in last 10 days].

My research said, as long as you told them before your appointment in writing, wasn't end of world to postpone 1 time. But was stressful, and don't recommend unless it's a real emergency.

Thank you for sharing your experience and Congrats on completing your process!

I am in a similar position. My oath is scheduled for June 23 at Long Island and I am coming back from my international trip on 23rd itself.

Was there a letter format that needs to be followed or just a general letter? Assuming you didn't fill out page 4 of the form?

Appreciate your help!

No form, just explained the situation and explained when I was available ( for you 10  days after your return). And didn’t fill out my form.

Oath scheduled for June 23 😏. Working on getting it rescheduled

Bummer. Had you asked the officer if he could get you an earlier oath date? My husband will go on with his travel itinerary and hope for the best. Keep us posted on how this ends up and good luck. From what I've read around here, it's not the end of the world if you miss an oath ceremony, but as @sender99 noted, I am sure it's stressful. Our issue is that we have back to back international trips planned this summer with a 4-week gap in between so skipping the oath won't be an option for us.

Thanks! I did bring up my travel plan with the officer and I had printed out my itinerary. She didn't think I was going to get oath so soon. She said probably early July.

Interestingly, I just noticed this on USCIS site. Looks like they just updated this today. I will call USCIS and confirm this. If true then I will try to come back night before.

Thank you. I am in Manhattan. But why they have transferred your case to Texas? That is so odd to me...

I moved to Texas, that's why :)

I just can't figure out why my bio appt isn't scheduled even almost 13 months after filing. Last time i contacted USCIS, they said my case is in suspension until my bio appointment is schedule.

Any June 2020 Brooklyn filer still waiting for interviews?

My best friend filed in August 2020 (Brooklyn NY) but her case receive date is September 15... On June 1st her status has changed to interview was scheduled and her interview is on June 30th @ 7:00 am (26 Federal Plaza)...

She has her green card for over 15 years. Maybe that’s why she is sooner than us
