Yes, they collect your green card at the oath ceremony.

Well that sucks.  It's a huge loss for us but I think getting this entire immigration journey over with is more important.  It's funny too. The entire process has been relatively smooth from her K1 to now, just to end with a big F U at the end.  *sigh*

I totally understand your pain. I'm in the same boat, applied in February 2020, and now kind of hoping my interview date won't be for another few months because of travel plans.

Could you tell us your filing office and NOA + interview dates?

Thanks!

AOS:

01-05-2017 - NOA1 received

05-03-2017 - Verbally approved in interview

05-26-2017 - Card was mailed

I had my interview on 2/18/2021. I passed the exam but they checked “decision cant be made” on the paper they handed me. Since then there’s no updates on my case. No approval status change/no case update just nothing. Case status is still showing “interview scheduled”. Anyone on the same boat? Is it normal to be like this?

Please include your application date and local office, it will be helpful for others and yourself to get a more accurate response.

Don't have experience with "decision cannot be made" but don't worry too much about the "interview scheduled" status - from my experience, the case status is directional at best and often quite behind case developments - letters in the mail are your best bet

Yep, I've been in this exact state since Feb 2020!!

Don't worry though, it's not that common to be waiting as long as me. Most people seem to get a decision within a month.

She filed March 2020, and the page updated a few hours ago with interview  on April 13th.  Nothing in the mail yet.

NYC Field Office.

I applied at the post office that’s close to my house and I got my passport.

Got a question for you, (or anyone else who interviewed recently in Brooklyn or NYC)

did the officer ask for your state id? I don't have one and just saw that it is in the requirements... panicking a bit.

I can't find an appointment for the next 6 weeks because of COVID.

I don’t have state id either, I don’t drive here so. I brought passport and green card with me. They only asked to see green card.

Since feb 2020 is crazy long. I thought they have 120 days after interview to make decision. Have you tried to contact them?

Long Island office - I went on the beginning of March to my naturalization interview, I passed the exam, but the officer couldn't make a decision because my I-751 application was still pending (since March 2019).  The officer said that they will ask for my I-751 application to be transferred from another office, and probably won't need to invite me to a I-751 interview because my case is solid. Two weeks later - My I-751 was approved, my 10 years green card mailed to me, and a I got a notification that my oath ceremony was scheduled + the date.

It feels good to see the end!

Why are these offices so ineffecient when others across the USA are processing applications quicker?

From what I can see, it looks like Brooklyn actually has the slowest processing in the country now (currently 24.5 months).

Hopefully the Biden effect should start to improve things in the coming months.
