Is it normal in New York to have such a long wait between biometrics and interview? I completed biometrics December 9th 2019 and wanted to travel in March but wasn't sure if things could be happening around then. Online it says processing will be 4 months...

Depends where you live?

If you live in Manhattan or the Bronx, expect to wait 10-11 months before you get an interview date (10-11 months from date you submitted your application). It was ranging around 12 months last year so things have improved slightly since then. If you live in Rockland or Westchester, it will be quicker.

Brooklyn/Queens - about 8 months to interview at the moment, from what I've seen.

CITIZENSHIP TIMELINE

4/2019: Submitted N400

5/2019: Biometrics (3 weeks)

2/2020: Interview (10 months)

3/2020: Oath & naturalization (11 months)

6/2020: Passport received (3 months)

Thanks for the info. I live on Long Island and my biometrics were done in Jamaica, Queens. Not sure which office it has been sent to but I'm guessing Queens?

You can find your field office using this tool:

https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-uscis-office/field-offices

Either way, Queens and Long Island are faster than Brooklyn and "New York" (Manhattan) field offices.

I think if a name-change is involved, the oath ceremony is at Pearl Street, not Federal Plaza:

https://nysd.uscourts.gov/programs/naturalization-ceremony-and-schedule

From what I've read, people get the expedited passports quickly (<2 weeks). In order to request one, you must be travelling within 2 weeks from the day you have the passport appointment.

Thanks, N400NYC. But oops I meant the Pearl Street Courthouse.

I also saw that link before and it looks like they only hold the naturalization ceremonies on Fridays. But not sure whether I’m looking at the right place but it seems that’s they only have two schedules for naturalization each for Feb and Mar as per this link: https://nysd.uscourts.gov/judges/part1-schedule#navbar-collapse.

Did you have a name change? How long did it take from when you were placed in line to actually getting the schedule and then the oath ceremony day?

I wish I was that far long! My interview is in February. I've never seen a schedule for the ceremonies held at Federal Plaza, just the link you shared for those at the courthouse.

I’ve read from people on here that those who had their interviews transferred to Newark, NJ had a significant longer wait for their oath ceremonies. My husband was approved June 2019 and has been waiting since for his oath. It was scheduled twice but then cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances twice. Anyone else had this happen? Made many phone calls to uscis and asked for tier 2 officers but all they do is put in service requests. Never had a response to any of the requests...... Does anyone here has some advice how to go from here?

Many thanks!

I think you have tried everything. Time to involve one of the senator's offices - Gillibrand or Schumer (assuming you are living in NY state). In my experience, Gillibrand's office is more responsive/efficient with immigration matters. Waiting >6 months for the oath ceremony is outrageous and unacceptable. It's very easy to make the case request:

Thank you so much for your response! We wrote to senator Gillibrand’s office yesterday as well as our representative. Hoping we get help soon because this waiting has been nerve wracking and frustrating. Especially when you read lots of people in NYC getting their oaths super fast.

They should be able to help as the waiting time is well outside what it should be!
