Hello Everyone,

It has been a long time since my husband filed N 400 online on October 16, 2018.  After a year he received a letter for his interview scheduled for October 31, 2019.  His case was transferred to Newark, New Jersey even though we live in Manhattan.  I would like to know if somebody has a similar case and if they can share their experience regarding the interview in Newark, New Jersey.  Also, I would like to know how long it is taking for the Oath Ceremony after the approval in New Jersey and if his oath will be in New Jersey or New York.  Thanks for all your help in advance.  Maite & Osmar

Apparently these transfers are pretty new for Manhattan filers. I had the same thing happen to me. You can read my experience so far in my posts. (I just joined so I only posted a handful of times.) Good luck!

Thanks sgzr for your prompt response.  I believe you already had your interview at Newark, can you please share your experience at that place.  Thanks

Out of curiosity, what is the “estimated time to completion” displayed on your husband’s USCIS account profile?

12 months seems to be the current standard waiting time for an interview for Manhattan applicants - one of the worst (if not the worst) waiting periods across all offices in the USA

For Manhattan residents the pattern seems to be if the wait is extending beyond 12 months, the case gets moved to Newark for the interview....

Hi guys!
They scheduled my interview today, I don't know the date yet.
My priority date is January 3rd, I'm in NYC.

What part of NYC do you reside in - Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx?

I still haven't heard anything regarding my oath ceremony. I'm reading that people who had interviews at their own field offices get ceremonies scheduled quickly, even within the same week but I guess there's a delay for people who had a case transfer. Such a bummer. 😐

Is there an average timeframe for how long before the ceremony the schedule notice is sent? I'm assuming that they won't send a notice to  people asking them to show up the next week. I've been putting off some travel thinking that the ceremony would be sooner but I guess I will go ahead and buy my tickets.

We are definitely on the same boat. My case was approved October 8th, New Jersey, even though I'm from New York. File was transferred. I still didn't hear anything for the oath ceremony.

I know! Same exact situation.

It just doesn't make sense to me that people that have been approved after us have been sworn in already. I will definitely keep everyone posted as it seems like this is becoming much more common.

Regarding the delay in oath for people whose cases were transferred to NJ: so unfair!!! Not only have you been forced to wait ONE YEAR to get an interview, you then find yourself in this situation of limbo regarding the oath. It’s torturous!

I think the Newark transferees should call and try the “I need to speak with a tier 2 officer” approach to see if you can get a human being to address your individual situation.

Hello N400NYC,

I checked my husband’s USCIS account profile and I didn’t see any estimated time of completion for the case.  I found that weird because I have seen that before but not anymore 🤔
