I'm still waiting for my interview to be scheduled, I filed my paperwork a little over 6 months before my green card expires and it looks like i'll be waiting another 5/6 months before i'm done with this whole process. 

 

I plan to renew my greencard as I want to travel this summer. 

 

I read somewhere online that you may ask to see if you can get a six month stamp on your passport during your biometrics appointment to renew your green card. It says that "some" offices allow this. 

 

Has anyone ever heard of that being an option at any NYC offices?? If I can avoid having to fish for an infopass appointment then that would be helpful.

I got a stamp like that (I-551) when I was waiting for my I-751 to go through. I got it at the NYC service center with an Infopass. 
I don't know if the process is the same for pending N-400, though. But Infopass is probably the best way to find out.

NOA: Receipt Notice Date Printed on your official I-797 notification.
Fprints:  Date assigned for fingerprinting (Bio-metrics). If you do your biometrics via walk-in prior to your scheduled appointment, please enter the date in bold blue.
In Line: Date you received e-notification about the start of your interview scheduling.
Int Ltr: Date you received the official letter in the mail regarding interview.
Interview: Date of your interview.
Oath: Date Oath taken.

Field Office: Your local USCIS office where you will have the N-400 interview.

I have done that when my I-751 was pending, and after I got the green card (while my N-400 was pending) it had a typo in the last name, so I filed for a replacement and got another extension.


Here's the one thing that no one tells you when you get the stamp: every time you come into the country, the officer can't verify that the stamp is real on the spot, so you have to be taken to the immigration officer at the airport (secondary screening) and wait while they verify everything. 

It doesn't take time to get, just schedule the InfoPass and take your green card with. They'll most likely take the card from you, and stamp the passport.

I realized looking at everyones time line that my process seems to be a lot faster than most applicants here. It seems like interviews notices has only been given up to September/October filers. From studying a good deal of timelines here it seems that people who has been a permanent resident for 10+ years seems to have a much quicker turnaround. Anyone else has noticed this?

From studying a good deal of timelines here it seems that people who has been a permanent resident for 10+ years seems to have a much quicker turnaround. Anyone else has noticed this?

I think it depends on which is your country of origin and how common is your name which factors in how quickly a background check will clear for you. Just my observations.

I wish I could agree with this, but I came in to the country as a permanent resident at the age of 3, and have been a permanent resident the entire time. So that’s 33. I never left the country for extended periods, and I come from Dominican Republic.  I used to work at an airport so I’ve had yearly background checks and fingerprinting clearance from the age of 19-34. I then started working at a school so again I had to get fingerprinted and a background check for that, yet STILL my total application process was estimated at 11 months. It’s been 5 months, I got fingerprinted but i’m still waiting to hear back on being in line for an interview. It seems like it’s all just a random game of chance.
