So, does anyone have any insight into why all of our timelines keep getting pushed back? Seems like it's been happening for a month, but I keep hearing reports of people saying "I remember back in the day you could get approved even before you knew you had to file...." (Okay, bit of an exaggeration...) BUT, I was wondering if anyone who has ears a little more to the ground when it comes to knews or USCIS info had any ideas why this is. I can only think of two things: 1.) sudden influx of applications or 2.) sudden outflow of employees (firings/lay offs/retirements without rehires, etc.). I guess it could be procedural changes but that just boggles the mind.

We need a spy on the inside......lol

Is it possible for you to begin research on that? You can contact each of the centers and inquire about their volumes, staff, etc. Find out if their are newly trained people or whether many people have retired.

You can do a study on USCIS and NVC. We all are really counting on you to research that for us. We all would be grateful.

For what it's worth, OP, I read your post as a curious question rather than impatience -- though deep down, who isn't impatient throughout this process?

My application was just recently filed on 9/5. I'm setting my expectations on a 5 month wait to NAO2, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took longer at this juncture.

Yay, someone gets me! Thanks, and welcome to the process!

Funny you should say that....

After spending a lot of time looking through various visa statistics, I hit on the following: https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/AnnualReports/FY2016AnnualReport/FY16AnnualReport-TableI.pdf

and other data which shows that since 2014 (and extrapolating from 2016 to 2017) there has been about a two million per year increase in the number of nonimmigrant visa applications (of which the K1 is part). Since then there has also been pretty much no increase in the federal workforce through at least the last administration (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_United_States_federal_hiring_freeze), not to mention the recent three month federal hiring freeze. During that time federal workforce was decreased through attrition (those that left weren't replaced). So, two million more applications per year, likely no additional staff added.

On another tangent... Do you know when they send out RFEs? Do they wait until they actually look at your case? Or could it happen before? Just questions that I am wondering about. haha

(RFE's) get send out right away if there are obvious errors while they are scanning in your I 129, such as missing signatures, wrong payment amount, missing payment, etc etc. Other RFE's will be sent while they are checking your case.. hope this helps.

That does help. Thank you. I seem to have more questions every day!
