MANILA (Reuters) - Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte's son on Thursday told a Senate inquiry he had no links to a seized shipment of $125 million worth of narcotics from China, dismissing as "baseless" the allegations of his involvement in the drugs trade.

Opponents of the president, who has instigated a fierce crackdown on a trade he says is destroying the country, say they believe his son Paolo may have helped ease the entry of the drug shipment at the port in Manila, the capital.

On Tuesday Duterte said he had told Paolo to attend the senate investigation if he had nothing to hide, besides advising him not to answer questions and invoke his right to keep silent.

"I cannot answer allegations based on hearsay," Paolo Duterte, the vice mayor of the southern city of Davao, told the Senate.

"My presence here is for the Filipino people and for my fellow Davaoeños whom I serve," he added, referring to the people of Davao, where his father served as mayor for more than two decades before being elected president in 2016.

I really want to see how this plays out because my wife is from the town that they control. So if it turns out to be true the President is going to be pissed for sure.

On another note this hearing sucked last night because it came on around 7pm PST and was on pass the time I went to bed which was around 10pm. My wife sat there and watched almost the WHOLE thing last night. She was then complaining because she didn't get enough sleep due to that and our 7 month old, all of which I thought was funny.

I know I know, this isn't our first rodeo in that regards. I have four children overall, 2 from a previous marriage that we have custody of, and 2 from this marriage. So I have 3 girls and 1 boy, the ages are 10 girl, 8 boy, 4 girl, and 7 months girl. So my son has gotten picked on in the past for playing with his younger sister with dolls. Unfortunately we don't have a large place here in CA so alot of his toys are put up right now until we move back to the East Coast.

What;s funny to me is that my mother always wanted to have a girl but got two sons instead. Now she is overwhelmed with 4 granddaughters and 2 grandsons.
