N-400 September 2017 Filers

I called USCIS today and got a tiny bit of clarity on my case. Basically they told me that "according to their records" my background check isn't cleared yet. Although it seems the CS rep doesn't know much about the online statuses (my online status is stuck in "Case was Received") and was saying how they only update the statuses for the major changes like getting in line for interview...when i know most people get their statuses updated for biometrics scheduling and background check, etc.

 

TBH I feel like no one I talk to knows what's going on with my case 100% and so I'm forced into waiting with no idea what's going on....I know there are a lot of people in the same boat but it does get frustrating :|

I'm not surprised to read this. I have been collecting data on Sacramento FO filers since mid 2016. I have about 20 datapoints. About 3/4ths of them follow a very predictable pattern, i.e. interview approx 6-7 months from PD . But a handful of cases take longer. However, these longer cases are also clustered into a set of timelines; they take approx 10-11 months from PD to interview letter. From interview, they resume standard timeline, i.e. approx 1-1.5 months to oath. 

 

For what it's worth, Sac FO seems like a nicely run office. My interview was today, and it was a positive experience, with me being approved.

My wife got her "Oath Ceremony letter"  with in 7 days, for me the status is still on "Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled". Its only 2 weeks for Oath Ceremony in Los Angeles. When I called the help line, they said "Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled" is not that Approval completed,  meaning, No decision was made on your case.  Any one had any experience like this?

I am actually in the same boat as you. My application was approved July 2nd but still have not received the oath ceremony letter and case status online is stuck at "Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled". I don't know why yours and your wife's were not scheduled at the same time though. Hang in there. It will arrive within one month. The only sucky part on your situation is that you might not be able to take the oath ceremony with your wife in 2 weeks and will be scheduled on August 24th instead.

How about requesting a Level 2 officer when you call the customer service? I'm sure that will give you more insight as to what's happening with your case.

I finally received notice that they scheduled my ROC interview for 7/30. I applied for I-751 in Dec 2016 and then applied for N-400 in Sept 2017. They scheduled a N-400 interview in Dec 2017, but once we showed up we were told that they don’t do combo interviews in Chicago. Happy to get the ROC process done with so that the citizenship application can move forward!

I believe your suggestion is for @kaberosi and not me. However, I don't know if there's any meaningful difference between an Infopass visit and a call to an L2 officer in this situation. I haven't had to do either in my case, so I don't know firsthand.

Yes. It was for @kaberosi. I think speaking with a L2 officer is much more practical because they can give the same information about the case. Whereas, scheduling an infopass might just be a waste of time and money (having to take a day off from work and spending hours at the field office) especially if there's no major update about the case yet.

Yes all quite true, but he/she's stated having already just done an Infopass 2 days ago. A call to an L2 officer is unlikely to offer anything new at this point of time. Just the appointment and the look at their file might trigger some movement, as some people have seen. It's also ~300 days since they filed, which is around the time when the group of Sac FO filers with background check delays start getting their interview letters.

It's really interesting how these cases are being handled. It really depends on the case I guess. I have a friend who applied for N400 (under 3-year rule) in Sacramento in November of last year. She was recommended for approval right after her interview last month and just last week, she received her oath ceremony letter for end of this month.

It was the same for me. Late Dec 2017 filer, interviewed and approved yesterday, and I got a status update this morning saying my oath letter has already been mailed. Sept 2017 has two Sac FO filers, one of whom is already done with his oath, while the other's not even gotten an interview. Among Dec 2017 filers, I'm done with my interview and the other person's scheduled for August.
