Hi all - I received this email today: "Application Type: N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION; Your Case Status: Testing and Interview; On December 27, 2017, we scheduled an interview for your Form N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION"...

 

Does this mean an interview date has been set? 

 

myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov still shows "September 29, 2017 We reviewed your biometrics" as the current status and Feb 2019 as the estimated completion date.

Most likely yes, and check back again your myaccount.uscis website tomorrow or following day, it should have a PDF document with a date/time/location for your interview.

Thanks! I wasn't sure because I see that "in line" column on the progress post - I never received an in line for interview status update; it has been the biometrics status since the fingerprints were given.

Do you also check your status on https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do ?

 

I usually got my updates first on the egov, and many times myaccoun.uscis does not even send me update notifications but i find my PDF documents couple of days later in myaccount.uscis website.

 

Currently I am also waiting a PDF document, they updated the status, but there is nothing new in the documents section.

Can somebody give me suggestions?

I am considering to hire a attorney for my N400 processing like checking documents and going interviews with me. It costs 1000 US dollars.

I already filed N400 by myself. I talked with an attorney. He said it’s necessary to hire a lawyer. Because some interview officer is not nice and ask some hard questions. I am afraid of this. 

Also the attorney told me the N400 application form I filed have a few informations I did write it correctly. I am worried the officer will question me and deny my case. I can’t correct the N400 form and send it again now. It’s too late.

 

I have so much anxiety and pressure.

That is all depends on your case and under what rule/condition you are filling. IMO, it is total rip off, especially if you already send out your application. At this point a lawyer cannot influence anything, even if he tell yous that he will contact immigration on your behalf to improve the situation. And it is not necessary to hire a lawyer at all, he just wants your money and tells stories about angry and scary officers.  Lots of people did everything themselves and had no problem. I did my own adjustment of status, removing conditions and now my citizenship. It is not that hard if you do everything right, ie dont use fake ids, or lie about your immigration/visa etc or do any other crazy stuff in order to get in the US no matter what. Then you do probably need a lawyer lol

 

I'm not sure what hard questions they can ask on a naturalization interview if your case is pretty standard. I filed under 5 year rule and the only questions I had been asked were all the questions from N400 application, I guess to make sure there are no mistakes, and 6 civic questions for the history test...no more, no less. In fact, I had a citation that I listed on a form and did not specified that I have taken a driving class to dismissed it, so the officer corrected it for me, and I then signed electronic form with hi corrections again. So I think if you had a mistake like that or maybe mixed up a date, they probably will be corrected on the interview, and if USCIS really wants some clarification from you, they will ask you for RFE.

 

Even in worst case scenario if your application is denied, you are not going to be deported or anything like that. You will still have your residency and just have to reapply again, in which case it's still cheaper than this lawyer.

Quick update: My husband was sworn in as a citizen on Friday! Here are his dates, if someone can update:

 

Fingerprints: 10/20/17

Interview date mailed out: 10/25/17

Interview: 11/29/17 (Cleveland)

Oath: 1/5/18

 

Everything went really smoothly, other than the single-degree temperatures in the Cleve on the day of the oath ceremony! It was packed--probably about 80 people there taking the oath. One of our senators--Sherrod Brown--had a rep from his office there, which really impressed me. It was a wonderful ceremony and my husband immediately registered to vote, thanks to the forms brought by the Daughters of the American Revolution!

 

Good luck to the rest of the September filers--I hope your process is smooth!
