Well I’m on my way to see my darling. Started flying 12 hours ago and I’m still not done. Supposed to be on my flight now actually but flight to JFK is cancelled due to the snow storm.

So now I’m stuck in Dubai, waitlisted for my next flight to Boston instead.

Have a safe trip

So I'm a bit confused when it comes to the DS-260,DS160 so ive been told and through research that when your filing the K1 visa to do the DS-160,however the consulate website for Senegal says to do the DS-260? also how do we find out how in advance can we get the  police certificate?

The DS-160 is for non-immigrant visas and DS-260 is for immigrant visas. The K-1 is a non-immigrant visa. But since it's handled by the immigrant visa unit at the embassy, sometimes they use generic wording for immigrant visas in their communications.

I found their info on the website, which it looks like they copied the immigrant visa instructions to the fiancee visa page:

Fiance: https://sn.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/fiancee/the-interview/

Spouse/Other family immigrant visas: https://sn.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/family-immigration/the-interview/

That stated process for a K-1 is all wrong. A K-1 uses the DS-160. Documents are not submitted to NVC for a K-1, and NVC does not review the case or schedule the interview. That's how an immigrant visa works. For a K-1, NVC just makes sure papers are in order, assigns a case number, then sends it off to the embassy to complete any other processing.

Police Cert info (not sure if this has exactly what you're looking for, but I'll put it out there):

It might be helpful to use the country portal for Senegal and ask people there since the police clearance/certificates for different countries are so vastly different. Good luck.

If you are a K1 then you use the DS-160.  If you are CR-1 then you use the DS-260.

This is going to be a really dumb question, probably, but it's worth asking.

Should I be planning on attending my fiancé's interview? I've been seeing TONS of people talking about traveling for theirs. It's something I would be thrilled to do, in theory, but in order to do that, my plane ticket would probably cost me about $800. I guess I need to know whether to be selling a kidney at this point or not.

Not a dumb question at all. I can't tell you what you should do in your specific case, however as for us, my fiancé is not coming over for the interview. It's just not going to fit with his work schedule. Also, he can't even come in with me so personally I don't see the point. But then again my embassy is very close to me. For people who have to travel for their interview I can see how some company might help with the nerves.

I'm torn, because I do want to go. My fiancé has to go to London, and he lives 5 hours away. They do allow the sponsor to attend the interview. But I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to come up with the money/time to do so. Since I don't live at a PoE city, plane tickets abroad are so expensive. And I have to fly into Manchester, which is another 1.5 hours from where my fiancé lives. On the other hand, the nonsensical part of my brain is screaming "GOGOGOOOO" because I haven't seen him since the beginning of October, and otherwise won't get to until he's here for good.

No, its not really a dumb question. My fiancé told me last week that he wanted to attend my interview and willing to wait until my visa arrives so we can travel to the US together. But we are still not sure if my interview date will going to fit his work schedule. We haven't seen each other since December 2016 :crying:

I came back on Dec 4th from seeing my fiancé , but I'm planning a trip the first week of February. I've been pretty fortunate to have a job that says if you have the PTO, just put it in before someone else does kind of attitude. I don't want to attend the interview. 1. His country doesn't allow me in anyway and 2. As much as I know our relationship is solid, you can never be so sure how the table will turn and if for some reason they said no. It would be the worst plane ride home I'd ever have to take. If they say yes, then I may fly to get him but other than that. That's gonna be a pretty personal choice and a tough one!

I'm both blessed and cursed by the fact that I'm currently working as a temp, because Pittsburgh has a terrible job market for my career field. Any time I take will be unpaid, and with student loan payments due, that's a tough pill to swallow. I've gone 8 months without seeing him before, and I know I could do it again, but I just HATE it. Ugh.

That's so sweet! (L) I would honestly go crazy if I didn't see my fiancé for that long! You two must have hearts (and a relationship) of steel! I know my fiancé would love for me to be able to go, but he also knows that we need the money that I'd spend on flights and taxis would be better spent on Adjustment papers later. It's something we're going to have to really think about.

We're actually been together since 2006. It is really so hard not being together that long, it made me crazy lol and the waiting for the NOA2 is making me anxious :(

If only flights are cheaper it would be easy to be with our loved ones.

It’s a good question! We’ve thought about it, but since I won’t be allowed in, and the timing is sketchy at this point, I don’t think I’ll be going. Instead we are going on another vacation in early March to take our minds off of the process 😊.  It’s a little nuts, but once he gets here we won’t be doing much traveling so perhaps we can consider it a pre-honeymoon 😜.
