I think that if you weren‘t registered, then they won‘t even have a police file for you. I think it only means where your main residence is. So if you were in the us, but didnt work there and have a residency registered and are still registered in germany, then you wouldn‘t need one.

I‘m from germany as well and went to school in south korea.. but I was still registered in germany, because I lived in an airbnb and didn‘t have a place or bank account or ANYTHING bound to my name at all in korea, so there isn‘t really any trace of me back in korea other than my passport stamps.

TL;DR: I wouldn‘t sweat it until you paid rent for your own place registered to your name or worked or anything 😂

Well... I was working on campus as a work student. I even have a SSN ^^ So I basically am kinda "registered" . But I lived in a dorm and was never registered there. AAAHHH what to doooo!?

Hi! I am in the same boat.

You do not need a police certificate from US.

In your case, just Germany.

Hi I also studied in the US but you absolutely do not need a police certificate from the US. You need a police certificate from all other countries you live in for over 6 months  except from the US.

Another question...

Since we already have SSN, do we need to apply for another one once we enter US on K1 or can we wait after marriage?

Thanks

A SSN is for life... you already have 1 and you don't need another 1.

Oh awesome! So technically, I will only need to go to the SoS for a name change if I decide to take my fiances last name?

I am happy about that.

Yes basically

I am not 100 % sure but I think we COULD skip that part but since I will change my name I will definitely have to deal with it somehow ...

But someone else might know better :)?

Hello everyone

My fiance just called to USCIS they told her that we are approved last Friday but we didn't receive anything even in mail and online yet. I am so excited if it's true can somebody explain please and I am really very thankful of everyone here everyone helped me a lot in this. Special thanks to @Naes

And I will still be asking things until the end

Thanks a lot everyone

Gul

Congratulations!
They do have silent approvals without updating your app / sending an email.

Check your mailbox, your NOA2 should be arriving shortly :)

What was your NOA1 date?

WE GOT APPROVED!!!!

Nothing on USCIS website, nothing on either of the two USCIS apps....

Went down to the mailbox (I live in an apartment complex, so I don't check my mail very often), and THERE IT WAS!!! I could see the "approved" writing on the letter through the envelope window panel, as another person in this thread did. The craziest part is that this NAO2 is dated 3/1, and the envelope is stamped 3/2... so it has been here for at least 2-3 days!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

NAO1: Sept 7
NAO2: Mar 1

Congrats! How exciting! Please update your timeline :)

Your SSN doesn't change at all. You will need to come in to SSA after you get married with unexpired K-1 visa or EAD or Greencard and original marriage certificate to change the name on your SSA record. However, if you had a name from prior marriage or other reason, when you first applied for SSN, they may request for proof of divorce decree or court order.

I know this because I work for the Agency :)
