You will have your interview before you get your green card.  If your office is St Paul it is VERY unlikely that you will hear anything about your interview for several months.  St Paul used to transfer about half of their i485 cases for processing without interview - but I understand that under the current administration this is happening less and less.  USCIS and visajourney statistics show that St Paul takes about a year to process i485s.  You should be completely safe to travel to China for your wedding in January.  If you receive a notification before then (which is unlikely) you can call and reschedule.

Have a great trip!  Do update if you hear anything about interview!  I would love to hear that St Paul is doing better and we have our green cards in the Spring next year and not the fall!   I have friends who got their EAD about six weeks ago (filed in June) and their status updated to 'ready to schedule interview' about a month ago and no further news yet - I think you will be fine to travel in January.  You have plenty of time before you'll need to worry about the interview :)

Thank you ! Did you hear anything about your combo card ? We are at similar timeline

Received my EAD/AP combo card in the mail today, December 6th. Old style card, not the new one. My notice date was November 29th, and they mailed the card on December 1st. Case status still shows received, heh.

Interestingly, for those of you that use Informed Delivery; my Combo Card was sent with USPS Priority Mail, but it never showed up in my Packages or Letter previews; even today.

Interesting....thanks for sharing...

Interesting indeed! I was wondering if informed delivery would work 100% of the time

If there is a government shutdown will it affect USCIS?!

I think it would to some degree. While USCIS is mostly funded through us paying application fees, I think the employees are still government workers, working in federal buildings. I guess it is hard to say for sure, but I would assume processing times would be even slower if there were to be a government shut down. A scary thought.

It's hard to know. During the shutdown on 2013 some federal workers were forced into unpaid leave but others were required to work even if their payment situation was unclear.

It may have some effect if it happens as USCIS also dependes on other agencies (background checks, etc).

There are some threads on the 2013 shutdown on VJ
