Question regarding form N-400

Hello there fellow VJers. There is a question on the form N400 that states, 'Are you a male who lived in the U.S. between your 18th to your 26th birthdays? Yes or No. This does not include living in the U.S. as a lawful nonimigrant. If you answered 'Yes', when did you register for Selective Service'. Provide information below.

Now I came to the U.S. on an F1 student visa when I was 23 years old in 2007 and my F1 was valid thru May 2010. From after May 2010 to 2013 I didn't have any status whatsoever.  Then later in 2013 I gained LPR status through marriage. So my question is what should be my answer to this question? Please advise. Thanks

If you were 23 in 2007, and your visa was valid until 2010, then you would have been 26 already at that time.

 

So you will need to answer no, because you were in lawful non-immigrant status between your 23rd and 26th birthday.

As stated, provided you remained in a lawful nonimmigrant status for the entirety of your stay in the US through the age of 26 then you should answer No.

I Just attended school for 2 semesters after coming for the fall semester in 2007, so I didn't go to school after summer 2008, that does still make me 'in status'? Although as previously mentioned my student visa was valid till May 2010.

No. If you were here on an F-1 student visa then one of the conditions is actually going to school. By not going to school you invalidated your bona fide status as an F-1 student, and so would need to answer Yes to that question.
