Oh wow!  I didn't realize that.

So, my wife became a conditional permanent resident on 10/9/2015.  Her conditional residency expired 10/9/2017 and they issued her a continuance letter which expires this year on October 9th.

So, could we apply for citizenship now?

Yes! You can file online too! With N-400 not a lot is required like it is for ROC. If your ROC is pending, they might join the two cases (I have little background on this, so read before applying).

Here are the guidelines: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/n-400instr.pdf

On the link @AlluringSoul provided, it says:

"One of the requirements for naturalization is to take the naturalization test to demonstrate that you are able to read, write, and speak basic English and that you have a basic knowledge of U.S. history and government (civics)."

I thought if you married a US citizen, you didn't have to take any test.  But it doesn't give an exemption there for that reason.

Exemtions are given on the application form. If you are married to a USC, you have to write a test. Expemtions are available only if the applicant is >55 yrs of age and has lived as a conditional resident for at least 10 years or more. Also, there are few more exemptions if you an asylee.

I applied for ROC on 09/9/2017 , I also applied  online for N-400 on 08/20/2018 and I have my biometrics appointment on 09/13/2018. (I applied for naturalization with my I-751 that's still pending)

I hadn't had any updates from USCIS regarding my I-751 since 04/16/2018, to my surprise today I got a text message from USCIS , I checked my case status after that and I received this message.

* No RFE nor interview on my I-751, my field office is Vermont for my I-751 and Boston(Lawrence, MA) for my N-400.

I just want to say thank you to the Visajorney community.

It's a simple test and there are many resources online that you can use to study for it. I would not worry about it so much if you study for it. They just want to know when becoming US Citizen, you can actually read and write in English (and it looks like you can heh) and if you know something about this country, for ex. first president etc. 🙂 I think marriage interviews are more stressful than this. So go file your N-400!!!

Hi - May I ask whether or not your case was transferred to your local office? Or did it stay at Vermont SC the entire time?
