should i get a lawyer if  i would go the VAWA way or i could do everything by myself ?

also is there any guide that could provide more detailed information about the entire process of vawa, how to apply and so on

thanks

You can choose to do it yourself if you wish, make sure you are able to gather your documents correctly, a lawyer will only help you fill out your information on the paperwork  and submit all evidence you provided. I would suggest you go to USCIS website and ready every requirements there.I am not using a lawyer because I can not afford one.

I got the approval letter and it also has deferred action valid for 15 months. It also mentioned that my case is put on low priority for removal (probably because my i485 which was filed with i-130 by my ex-wife , later withdrawn, was denied)

I see there are still some oct 2016 filers. I would recommend doing an infopass to gather some info

The mention that the case was put on low priority of removal doesn't have anything to do because your ex wife filed the I-130 and withdrew, it's a statement to everyone  who gets deferred action ok.

@GodblessmeOh yes I went to my Congressman office the lady called and that's exactly what they told her september 2016 they working on...so for me who filed April 2017 am looking at September 2018 ..

I had a bunch of cases filed in  December 2016 approved, of course there are some cases filed in Oct/Nov2016  still waiting to be adjudicated, but they are already adjudicating VAWA petitions filed in December 2016.

Your information is not correct. I am an attorney and  I just don't  fill out the information on the paper work.I review the petitioner's affidavits and the affiant's affidavits and tell the petitioner what is missing or what has to be deleted in the affidavit, plus I review the psychological evaluation and if it's not drafted the way that supposes to be usually I will talk to the psychologist, that being said not all attorneys just fill out the forms.

I wish most attorneys are like you @sandranj . I was on my labour bed when I wrote my affidavit, after that I told my attorney to edit it 4 me but she insisted that it was ok and sent it in like that. Honestly I am afraid after my healing from the hospital I decided to read what I wrote, oh my God! It was rubbish.  I wrote more on how good my spouse was than how evil he was to me,my baby and my unborn then.

Hi Guys...Sandra can you guide me ...

I had my i485 interview on January 17th, and it was approved.

The IO told me that in 10-14 days I will get my card, but I’m driving crazy because nothing arrived yet!!!

Do you think they changed their mind, and decide to not send my card?

They are not updating nothing on website since they transferred my case to NBC which was in September.

I have been waiting long 2 years and I’m really anxious to see my family.

I wish that they should be more educated with victims behavior. I understand why you wrote more on how good your spouse was because you were in a phase where you didn’t want to accept what happened to you because you were trying to protect what little ego and self esteem you have left after all the abuse you went through which I think is normal because I went through the same phase. You try to think that what you fell for was true because in the beginning your spouse did this and that for you when it was all good. I believe the VAWA adjudicators are well educated about victims.

I still have that problem, I find myself justifying the behavior and abuse, or downplay it in my mind, thinking maybe it wasn't bad enough, or he was drunk and didn't realize what he was doing.  For me, it took an arrest and a very patient police officer to realize that what I was living through was abuse and even though there was good,  the bad was unacceptable.

I always suggest to keep going to therapy, sometimes it takes a long time to overcome the lingering trauma. :(
