This is a good section of VJ to compare the fiance and spousal visas. http://www.visajourney.com/content/compare

Each has its pros and cons.  The K-1 is slightly faster, but it is more expensive, and the fiance cannot work or travel outside the US for several months after the marriage.

The CR-1 spousal visa takes a few months longer (12-14 months from filing to visa in hand), but it immediately results in a Green Card upon entry into the US and the spouse can immediately travel outside the US and legally work.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

What is the quickest and cheapest way that a US Citizen can marry a Jamaican? Should I go to Jamaica or apply for a K1 Visa?

The fiance visa is faster  it will take roughly 6 - 8months months.

when your fiance enters the US it will take about 3 months or less for him/her to receive a work permit (apply as soon as he/she enters  the US).

If he/she wants to travel outside the US  - apply for an advance parole (permission to travel outside the US while paper are being processed)

Im sorry for asking so many questions but the first step is I (the American) pay 535. 00 for the processing fees for the I 129f right?  I have no idea about this nor do my fiance in Jamaica.... lolololol

No worries - questions were made to be asked.

Yes, you (the US citizen) sends in the petition - i 129f form on behalf of your BOO and pay the $535.00 fee.

If you go to the uscis website, you'll find the form and instructions on how to fill out the form.

Do you know how much all this will cost?

If you are concerned with the costs, I would advise you to look at both the CR-1 costs as well as K-1 costs.........A K-1 visa is quite a bit more expensive than a CR-1 by the time your fiance gets the Green Card...

I agree with missleman. If you are concerned about costs, the cr1 would be better. It's cheaper and he/she can work/travel almost immediately. The K1 maybe faster but so many people file for the K1 and come on here asking for advice on how to speed up the process so the spouse can work or they don't have the $$ for AOS
