ahem..'prosperity gospel' as in, mail in some cash money and we'll send you a cool paper prayer rug to ask god to send money to fill your prescriptions...

Quote

Evangelicals should be deeply troubled by Donald Trump’s attempt to mainstream heresy

Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration will include Paula White and possibly other members of his inner circle, Darrell Scott, “Apostle” Wayne T. Jackson and Mark Burns. They’re all televangelists who hail from the “prosperity gospel” camp. They advocate a brand of Pentecostal Christianity known as Word of Faith.

Inaugurations are always curious rituals of American civil religion. It would not be surprising to see a non-Christian religious leader participating. But what’s problematic for me as an evangelical is how Trump’s ceremony is helping to mainstream this heretical movement.

The prosperity gospel — the idea that God dispenses material wealth and health based on what we “decree” — is not just fluff. It’s also not just another branch of Pentecostalism, a tradition that emphasizes the continuation of the gifts of healing, prophecy and tongues. It’s another religion.

Rather: Trump 'seized with fear' over Mueller investigation

http://thehill.com/homenews/news/348675-rather-trump-afraid-of-what-mueller-will-find-out

Dan Rather says he thinks President Trump is "seized with fear" over special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential race.

"Donald Trump is afraid," Rather said Wednesday on MSNBC. "He's trying to exude power and strength. He's afraid of something that Mueller and the prosecutors are going to find out."

"A political hurricane is out there at sea for him, we'll call it Hurricane Vladimir if you will, the whole Russian thing," he said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It is unclear whether Schneiderman is investigating any other New York-based Trump associates under scrutiny by the FBI, such as Trump's son Donald Jr. or his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. But Trump has tweeted in the past that he has complete pardon power, which he would likely use on his family and loyal political allies — as he did with former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio — before anyone else.

Mueller seems to be preparing for that possibility by lining up "potential state prosecutions in states where these folks may have violated state law," former FBI agent Asha Rangappa, now an associate dean at Yale Law School, wrote on Wednesday night.

"There's a legal principle called 'dual sovereignty' [which] means that for purposes of criminal prosecution, the state and federal government are separate sovereigns and concurrent jurisdiction," Rangappa said. "Technically speaking, BOTH the federal government and a state (or multiple states) can prosecute on the same set of facts if those facts would constitute a crime in their respective jurisdictions."

Rangappa also said that the "bulk of criminal law belongs to the states," which have "broad power to criminalize behavior."

Jens David Ohlin, a professor at Cornell Law School, said in an email Wednesday that state and local convictions can only be pardoned by a governor, not the president.  "So the possibility of a state criminal prosecution may turn out to be the best way of constraining this administration," Ohlin said.

After the sister of White House senior adviser Jared Kushner dropped his name in early May while pitching a real estate development to wealthy Chinese investors, one of Kushner’s lawyers quickly released a statement that he had already divested all interests in the venture known as One Journal Square.

More than two months later, Kushner released an amended financial disclosure that revealed a more complicated reality: At the time of the public statement, he maintained a connection to a subsidiary of the One Journal Square project. Kushner held a “contingent right,” which allows an investor the chance to gain ownership if certain benchmarks of financial success are met — such as revenue targets.

Kushner’s lawyer, Blake Roberts of WilmerHale, said that he stood by his initial statement that his client had divested from One Journal Square. He said that Kushner had sold his ownership stake in the project on March 7 to his mother’s trust and that the contingent right, which was discovered only after the public statement, no longer held any value because it was connected to part of the project that had fallen through.

Kushners’ China Deal Flop Was Part of Much Bigger Hunt for Cash

https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2017-kushners-china-deal-flop-was-part-of-much-bigger-hunt-for-cash/

Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and top adviser, wakes up each morning to a growing problem that will not go away. His family’s real estate business, Kushner Cos., owes hundreds of millions of dollars on a 41-story office building on Fifth Avenue. It has failed to secure foreign investors, despite an extensive search, and its resources are more limited than generally understood. As a result, the company faces significant challenges.

Over the past two years, executives and family members have sought substantial overseas investment from previously undisclosed places: South Korea’s sovereign-wealth fund, France’s richest man, Israeli banks and insurance companies, and exploratory talks with a Saudi developer, according to former and current executives. These were in addition to previously reported attempts to raise money in China and Qatar.

The family, once one of the largest landlords on the East Coast, sold thousands of apartments to finance its purchase of the tower in 2007 and has borrowed extensively for other purchases. They are walking away from a Brooklyn hotel once considered central to their plans for an office hub. From other properties, they are extracting cash, including tens of millions in borrowed funds from the recently acquired former New York Times building. What’s more, their partner in the Fifth Avenue building, Vornado Realty Trust, headed by Steve Roth, has stood aside, allowing the Kushners to pursue financing on their own.

Kushner Cos. says it will prevail. Laurent Morali, the president, said the company has a variety of contingency plans for the building and its broader portfolio will allow it to sustain any setback. He said he is encouraged by the interest of several potential investors, but declined to name them.

“Reports that portray it as a distressed situation are just not accurate for the building or for the company,” Morali said in an interview on the 15th floor of the building, 666 Fifth Avenue.

But there are challenges all around. The mortgage on their tower is due in 18 months. This has led to concerns that Kushner could use—or has perhaps already used—his official position to prop up the family business despite having divested to close relatives his ownership in many projects to conform with government ethics requirements. Federal investigators are examining Kushner’s finances and business dealings, along with those of other Trump associates, as they probe possible collusion between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign. Kushner has already testified twice before closed congressional committees and denies mixing family business with his official role.

BOOM!

WASHINGTON — Paul Manafort's notes from a controversial Trump Tower meeting with Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign included the word "donations," near a reference to the Republican National Committee, two sources briefed on the evidence told NBC News.

The references, which have not been previously disclosed, elevated the significance of the June 2016 meeting for congressional investigators, who are focused on determining whether it included any discussion of donations from Russian sources to either the Trump campaign or the Republican Party.

It is illegal for foreigners to donate to American elections. The meeting happened just as Trump had secured the Republican nomination for president, and he was considered a longshot to win. Manafort was the campaign chairman at the time.

Manafort's notes, typed on a smart phone and described by one briefed source as cryptic, were turned over to the House and Senate intelligence committees and to Special Counsel Robert Mueller. They contained the words "donations," and "RNC" in close proximity, the sources said.

As NBC News has reported, Mueller is also closely scrutinizing the Trump Tower meeting, which was hosted by President Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., and was attended by his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, along with Manafort.
