Trump Lawyer ‘Vehemently’ Denies Russian Collusion

https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/08/30/us/politics/trump-russia-michael-cohen.html?referer=

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s longtime lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, has given Congress a point-by-point rebuttal of a dossier alleging that he has deep ties to Russian officials — an effort to clear his name as the Justice Department and congressional committees investigate Russia’s attempts to disrupt last year’s election.

Mr. Cohen encouraged lawmakers to investigate those who paid for the salacious 35-page dossier, which surfaced online early this year and alleges that President Trump and his campaign conspired with Russia in the November election. The dossier, compiled by a retired British spy, portrays Mr. Cohen as a central figure in the conspiracy.

“We have not uncovered a single document that would in any way corroborate the dossier’s allegations regarding Mr. Cohen, nor do we believe that any such document exists,” said the letter to the House Intelligence Committee, which was written by Stephen M. Ryan, a lawyer for Mr. Cohen. A copy of the letter was obtained by The New York Times.

“Mr. Cohen vehemently denies the claims made in the dossier about him, which are false and remain wholly unsubstantiated,” Mr. Ryan wrote

Fox News Poll: Voters' mood sours, 56 percent say Trump tearing country apart

Voter satisfaction with the direction of the nation is down by double digits, as a majority says President Donald Trump is tearing the country apart.

That’s according to the latest Fox News Poll.

CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL POLL RESULTS

The number of voters happy with how things are going in the country is down 10 percentage points since April and stands at just 35 percent. It hasn’t been that low since 2013. At the same time, dissatisfaction jumped to 64 percent -- an 11-point increase.

Pollpic1Expand / Collapse

That shift is not, as is often the case, tied to the economy. Positive views on the economy are higher than in more than a decade: 36 percent say it is in either “excellent” (6 percent) or “good” (30 percent) shape. The last time conditions were rated this positively was August 2004.

The same isn’t true for Trump. His job ratings are increasingly negative -- and 56 percent feel Trump’s “tearing the country apart,” versus 33 percent who say he’s “drawing the country together.”

About two-thirds of Republicans feel Trump is drawing the country together (68 percent), while 15 percent say tearing the country apart and 18 percent are unsure. Nearly all Democrats (93 percent) and over half of independents (59 percent) say Trump is tearing the country apart.

Trump supporters are warning of civil war if Trump is impeached

"The Christians will finally come out of the shadows, because we're going to be shut up permanently."

Televangelist Jim Bakker has warned that Christians would begin a second civil war if President Trump were ever impeached.

“I predict if it happens there will be a Civil War in the US,” he said on the Jim Bakker Show in May, in a segment highlighted by Right Wing Watch that recently began making the rounds once again. “The Christians will finally come out of the shadows, because we’re going to be shut up permanently if we’re not careful, and God says that faith without works is death, we have to do things.”

The televangelist’s proclamation is one of many in a series of predictions this year by far-right media figures who warn that there will soon be another civil war. Last week longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone warned that there would be a violent, armed response if Trump was impeached.

Apopka preacher Paula White says defying Trump is 'fighting against hand of God'

Apopka preacher Paula White, who gave Tuesday's invocation in front of the Orange County board of commissioners meeting, recently appeared on a televangelist program where she said defying President Donald Trump was akin to "fighting against the hand of God."

Without specifying how big that hand might be, White said God was responsible for Trump's presidency on a television show hosted by Jim Bakker, a disgraced televangelist convicted of fraud who has been telling people that Christians will start a civil war if Trump is impeached.

"He’s not a polished politician," White told Bakker. "In other words, he’s authentically – whether people like him or not – has been raised up by God because God says that He raises up and places all people in places of authority. It is God that raises up a king, it is God that sets one down and so when you fight against the plan of God, you’re fighting against the hand of God."

Oh, but there's more! White claims "demonic spirits" are directing hatred toward Trump because they're afraid of who he will appoint to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"We’ve got 130 vacancies in the lower courts and he is appointing exactly what we have asked for, why we put him in position as the president," she said. "We said we will put you in because we want originalists, we want constitutionalists, we want our Supreme Court to be like Neil Gorsuch. … If we get two more – c'mon, if we get two more – and right now, I know we are scaring the literal hell out of demonic spirits by me saying this right now, because if we get two more, we will be able to overturn demonic laws and decrees that have held this nation in captivity."

But the numbers don't add up. We all know that when Fox puts out a poll, the total always exceed 100%. They take the expression "giving it 110%" literally.
