Anyone here had an error on their green card and is still waiting for USCIS to finish? I have an error on my name (due to their fault) and i've been waiting for 4 months already. My life has been on hold. I don't have my social security number yet therefore I can't work or drive. Anyone on the same boat?

There's no need to wait for the physical green card - you can apply for social security number using the stamped CR/IR-1 visa in your passport (it serves as a temporary green card valid for one year). You should also be able to use the visa (and SSN) to apply for a drivers license and as proof of your eligibility to work.

Apparently i have tried that numerous times already. I have been to a social security office 3 times already but they never gave me they dont know about that policy. They said i need to have my name changed in the system first!

Try to hire a lawyer or something to handle the case, if in the social security office don't know about this!

It took me a year. They put IR-1 instead of CR-1. I waited for my GC for a year. But I was able to work and get a license.

Did social securit release your social security number? My problem is my name and the social security office have no idea how to change it in their system. They said USCIS needs to change it for them in the system.

I applied social security as soon as I got here. They used the visa that was given by the US embassy in Philippines. It's valid for a year. Did you come here on CR-1 too?

Yes i came here on CR-1 too. I also went to the social security office to get a number before i even got my green card but unfortunately, that's when i found out that my name had an error. Now they won't release it unless I get my name fixed at USCIS, which they said will take 9months.

Oh that's a mess. What's the error in your name? Is it misspelled? I remember they verified my name when I got my social. I waited a week for their response. I think they're confuse with my middle name. Idk how they did it but they told me they will verify it to the immigration.

My middle name (which is my maiden surname) was included in my first name. Yes it can be confusing for them since filipinos tend to have more than one first names. Did they volunteer to verify it at immigration? Or did you ask them to do it? I dont know why our social security office couldn't even do that! I mean they even asked me my parent's name just to be sure if it was really me. That's when I found out that there really is a social security number assigned to me already.

We're on the same boat I think. They're the one who verified it to the immigration. They send me a letter about it... and after 2 week, I got my social. I never ask them to verify it.

Charlotte NC. Where did you go to?

I live in Sumter,South Carolina. It's a pretty small town but we have a social security office. I think they don't really know what to do compared to Charlotte. Charlotte's a big city. I guess people there know what they're doing. Lol

Probably 😁😁😁 Try to go to Charlotte offic. I think you should be fine. Also try calling the immigration and tell them about your situation. You should be able to have your social.
