Good day Vj's I just have some questions and hope that you can help me. Me and my husband is planning to go back to my country (Philippines) for a 3 weeks vacation, but my passport is in my maiden name (valid until 2021) and my greencard on my married name. I am worried if this will be an issue if I travel with these documents with different names. Would it be a problem especially when re-entering the US.

Anyone here had the same expirience?! Any response would be appreciated. Thank you !

It shouldn't be an issue. Bring a copy of your marriage cert, which would prove your formal name change through marriage :)

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

You had this experience before? Thank you for response. How about your plane ticket? Was it in your passport name or greencard?! Thank you in advance.

When we traveled from the US to the Dominican Republic and back we used the name on the Green Card and had no problem.

You won't have any issues. Just carry a copy of your marriage certificate with you to clear any disparity with airline employees if asked. Once you get to the U.S. all that's needed for re-entry is your green card and once scanned your passport will be stamped. It's always advisable to book flights with passport names though.

There is not an issue in regards to doing this at all and you should not have a problem when travelling back and forth from the Philippines. Just make sure you bring your passport, greencard, and your marriage license.

My asawa and I did the exact same thing last year when we flew back to the Philippines and there was not a problem. Just make sure when you both get to NAIA that you present your marriage license so your asawa can be given the Balkibayan visa as well.

Make sure when you fly that your tickets have to be in the name of your passport, so your maiden name.

Please go to the Philippine subforum if there are any questions Philippine specific and this has been asked before there.

My asawa did this when we went to the Philippines last year, she had her maiden name passport and her greencard in the married name. There was no problem for us to go there with using those documents, but you will need to add your marriage license as well when you go there. I went to there with her but she came back by herself and our daughter without me and there was not a problem.

Just make sure you have your Greencard, Passport, and Marriage License. Make sure your plane tickets are in your maiden name and NOT MARRIED NAME. When you go through immigration at NAIA just make sure you submit your marriage license to them so your asawa can get a balikbayan visa as well.

Where in the Philippines are you from, and your in NC? My asawa is from Davao and we plan on moving back to NC this year hopefully.

Make sure you take out and show them your marriage license when you go through immigration and when you check in at the airport to fly back. There was a case a couple of weeks ago on here where a guys wife flew back to the Philippines and when she tried to fly back she just accepted what they said about having to do ROM and CFO again without questioning it at all and missed her flight. She did not take out the ML and show them but just accepted what they said and did not want to make scene.

I don't think ENTERING the US  will be a problem with the marriage certificate.

However, you may have a problem with the airline agents at the originating airport (not when entering the US).

This happened to my cousin. The airline agents would not reason and wanted the passport to match the green card names and denied issuing the boarding pass to her. She had to call a supervisor and the whole thing was a big ordeal.

Airport airline agents are sometimes not the smartest people and go by the book with the rules.
