When someone I knew used a joint sponsor, they submitted their US Citizenship certificate with it. On NVC website, it says that if the Sponsor is US Citizen, they must submit proof of Citizenship in the form of birth certificate showing born in US, Naturalization certificate, US passport, or Green Card. See link below.

So to answer your question, birth certificate would work if the birth certificate says that the person was born in the United States.

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/collect-and-submit-forms-and-documents-to-the-nvc/step-4-collect-financial-documents.html

If you completed Form I-864 as a joint sponsor, submit proof that you are a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or Lawful Permanent Resident. You can do this by submitting a photocopy of one of the following documents:

  • Birth certificate showing birth in the United States;
  • U.S. Naturalization Certificate;
  • U.S. passport/passport card;
  • Form I-551 “green card;” or
  • Foreign passport containing Form I-94 with I-551 stamp (if you entered the United States by land) or an electronic Form I-94 record (if you entered the United States by air or sea).  You can request an electronic Form I-94 record from USCIS online.

ok thank and this is helpful to me

FYI:

When you use joint sponsor, make sure sponsor fills I864 and sponsor’s spouse fills I864A.

Both need to also give you proof of us citizenship and income information (w2)

Someone i know who did this sent original i864 and i 864A. The reason was that bcz nvc needs originals of i864 (original, signed).

It doesn’t take more than 4 business days to get documents to dubai from usa. I think we did fedex overnight and they got it in 2 business days. Be aware of usa weekends and dubai weekends
