Hi All,

I sent my package to NVC do you know how long will it take from now to get called for an interview. Also when should I get my medical done?

It took 8 months for NVC to complete my packet review. For medical, wait until you get interview appointment. Once you get interview letter, it will have instructions on where to get the medical completed. Do medical at that time. Be sure to take current/unexpired police clearance certificate to the interview. Also, be sure to take to the interview a copy of current paystubs, last year's w-2 and tax form 1044. We were asked for form 1044 even though we had both current pay stubs and last year's W-2s.

@shahnam0716 8 months is quite a time. I thought it wouldn't take that long. How does NVC notify you once they are done with your file? Also I have sent them mine and my spouses police clearance in the file. In Dubai the police clearance expires after 3 months. Do I need to apply for another one? We both currently live in Dubai

Yeh it is a llng time. Yes, you will need new police clearance certificates at the time of interview. I would wait until u get interview letter to get certificate bcz u will have about a month between interview letter and interview date. NVC notifies you via e-mail about your interview or if they need anything else. Most if not all

communication will be via email now.

It was a good one. First went to a window 1 and the lady asked for original birth and marriage certificate, passport and photos there on went for finger scanning and then for an interview. CO was a nice lady during interview she kept checking Affidavit of support, tax returns and other financial papers. She asked many questions- where do you live? What do you do? What subjects do you teach? How long are you staying in the UAE? Which all countries did you stayed for more than 6 months?  What did you do in the U.K? What level education you have? Where & how did you met your husband? When was the wedding? Where was it? Describe your wedding? Were your family at the wedding? Where does your husband live? With whom he lives? Own house? What does he do? Which subjects he teach? How many times did he visited you after wedding? Where did you go on honeymoon? Which countries in the Europe? What are the things you both disagree on? When you are planning to go US? She asked for original police clearances. Checked the date on Dubai police clearance, she kept original police clearances. Checked original birth certificate and marriage certificate, and returned. Given the paper of rights in the USA

Then said all good, congratulations! Your visa got approved. Given the white sheet and said you will get email for the collection of the passport.

We sent the package in August to NVC and in December the case was completed. We were informed about interview date in March. So from package sent till interview day is 6 months.

When someone I knew used a joint sponsor, they submitted their US Citizenship certificate with it. On NVC website, it says that if the Sponsor is US Citizen, they must submit proof of Citizenship in the form of birth certificate showing born in US, Naturalization certificate, US passport, or Green Card. See link below.

So to answer your question, birth certificate would work if the birth certificate says that the person was born in the United States.

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/collect-and-submit-forms-and-documents-to-the-nvc/step-4-collect-financial-documents.html

If you completed Form I-864 as a joint sponsor, submit proof that you are a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or Lawful Permanent Resident. You can do this by submitting a photocopy of one of the following documents:

  • Birth certificate showing birth in the United States;
  • U.S. Naturalization Certificate;
  • U.S. passport/passport card;
  • Form I-551 “green card;” or
  • Foreign passport containing Form I-94 with I-551 stamp (if you entered the United States by land) or an electronic Form I-94 record (if you entered the United States by air or sea).  You can request an electronic Form I-94 record from USCIS online.
