Fluency in English language for Visa interview

Some folks on this forum felt that being there in person helped pass the visa interview.  Do you think beneficiary's fluency in English language helps as well?

If the Vietnamese beneficiary  is not fluent in English language would that look negatively on her and lessens the changes of getting approved?

Depends on. Do you speak Vietnamese? If not, how do you guys communicate?

I do not speak Vietnamese.  My Fiancee speaks fairly good English and mostly understand each other enough to make our selves laugh and able to discuss important matters.  I try to use simple words and simple sentences and we use Google Translate to help with translating.  Currently, she is attending English school in HCMC.  In my eyes, I think her fluency of English is sufficient in U.S. but i fear the CO may think otherwise and lessens the chances of passing the interview.

Here's my two cents:  Attending the interview definitely helps. Why? It shows commitment and support. Also, I think it's human nature that an American consulate officer (CO) will have some softness for a guy that travels thousands of miles to support his significant other. On the lighter side of things, it helps alleviate some stress and the craziness of the interview. The consulate in HCMC is a crazy place - inside and out. Now, about the fluency.

 

I think it significantly helps if the fiancee has some English skills. Going to America and not knowing English is conducive to encountering problems with finding work, schooling, and assimilation into the culture. A CO will probably feel more comfortable issuing a visa knowing that language will not be a significant barrier. It just makes sense. My VN wife knows many VN women that are very unhappy in the U.S., mainly because they have poor English language skills and can't communicate outside their VN life.
