Thanks to all my people at VJ I got my green card last week. Approved 77 days. I went to Social Security Office and they told me their system is not updated with my status. They had to sent a verification letter to immigration. Has anyone experienced that?

Everyone.

mdyoung left me some SSA info before he left..

When an alien requests an SSN or replacement/corrected SSN card, SSA will verify his or her documents and current status with the appropriate Bureau of the Department of Homeland Security. If the initial verification is not available through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system, SSA may need to send Form G-845 for manual verification.

However, for applications submitted after 01/06/2007 SSA offices can submit an additional electronic verification request, that in most cases eliminates the need for a Form G-845 to be sent.

If your status does not verify through the initial SAVE request be sure that the secondary request has been made and return to the SSA office no more than once a week to see if the SSA office has received a response from the secondary verification request. Be sure to take your document whenever going into the SSA office.

Thanks to all my people at VJ I got my green card last week. Approved 77 days. I went to Social Security Office and they told me their system is not updated with my status. They had to sent a verification letter to immigration. Has anyone experienced that?

Hi there! We just recieved my greencard 2 weeks ago then the next step that me and husband made was went down to our local Social Security Office to apply for my social security number but the guy there said that they had to do some electronic verification to USCIS regarding our records because my last name that they found out in there system was my unmarried last name and on my greencard it was my married last name. Since the last name on my greencard is different from the last name on their system record they have to verify my record first in USCIS. And he said to call them back after two weeks from the day we went down in there office to find out the result. Which i really don't know why it happens. But prior to this I remembered that our greencard has been held up for 6 months because of the error that the USCIS they made. and we found out that when we made an infopass and the immigration officer apologized to us for the error they made and gave me a temporary greencard which is valid for 3 months. Then week after we made our info pass i recieved my welcome letter and week after I recieved my welcome letter i recieved my greencard on mail. So i'm kinna thinking that maybe it has something to do with the error that USCIS made. But we were hoping that the result well be ok.But we will find it out next week.

Hope everything turn out with your SSN application too. Please kind share to us the result or the progress of your situation. Next week if we find out the result of our appllication i will share it to you right away. Goodlluck

Sincerely,

Ann

I applied today for my SSN with the EAD.. do I have to update it when I get my GC???

You don't have to, but it is a very good idea to do so.

The SS card you get under an EAD will have a legend on it, saying that it is not valid for employment unless you show an EAD.

When you have a Green Card, you can get a SS card without that legend. This is useful when applying for jobs.

Update it again if you become a US citizen.

Where did mdyoung go? I just realized I hadn't seen any posts from mdyoung for a very long time.

he changed his nickname to 'I Quit' .. might have had to do with some of the feedback he got here..
